Abstract

An exact solution for the statistical mechanics of a one-dimensional ferromagnetic chain with an impurity under an external magnetic field is obtained by the transfer-matrix method and the results are compared with that of a pure chain without an impurity. Expressions for the free energy and susceptibility are obtained in closed form. The mechanisms of the change of phase variation of the wave vector and correlation length are demonstrated graphically.

Statistical mechanics of the 1D ferromagnetic ANNNI chain under an external field: revisited

N Bhattacharyya, Subinay Dasgupta

Presents an analysis of the exact solution for the statistical mechanics of the one-dimensional ferromagnetic ANNNI chain under an external magnetic field by the transfer matrix method. Expressions in closed form are derived for the free energy, magnetic moment, disorder line, susceptibility and the temperature and field derivatives of susceptibility. The variation of the wavevector and correlation length with the external field shows interesting features.

The transfer-matrix formalism is used to determine the effect of an external field on the free energy per spin, susceptibility, and specific heat of a Dzialoshinski-Moriya chain. The results are similar to antiferromagnetic xy chains in a transverse field.

Exact Analytical Results for the 1D Ising Chain with Periodic Impurity Fields

Telfah, Malek, Obeidat, Abdalla

We present an exact analytical solution for the one-dimensional Ising model in the presence of an external magnetic field applied periodically to every $k$-th site. The problem is handled using the symmetrized transfer matrix approach, we derive a compact closed-form expression for the system's eigenvalues for arbitrary period $k$. From the resulting free energy, we obtain exact expressions for the magnetization and zero-field susceptibility. Explicit results are presented for $k = 1$, $k = 2$, and $k = 3$ which is considered a novel result. We further analyze the spin-spin correlation functions, deriving the correlation length and the set of position-dependent correlation strength prefactors, $A_{ij}$. The framework highlights how impurity spacing suppresses thermodynamic responses, with susceptibility scaling as $χ\sim β/ k$ for large $k$, offering insights into diluted magnetic systems and serving as a benchmark for quasiperiodic modulations. The correlation strengths exhibit a strong anisotropy, revealing a complex, non-local structure of spin fluctuations. These results provide a complete and rigorous benchmark for understanding the effects of periodic modulation in 1D systems.

One-dimensional ising model with next-nearest-neighbour interaction in magnetic field

F. A, Kassan-ogly

The exact solution for the one-dimensional Ising model with nearest-neighbour and next-nearest-neighbour interactions in an external magnetic field is obtained within the framework of the Kramers-Wannier transfer matrix. The explicit analytical expressions for thermodynamic quantities such as magnetization, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat are derived and analyzed at length as functions of temperature, magnetic field, and the signs and values of the interaction parameters.

Statistical mechanics of classical spin-field model of the one-dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnet in a magnetic field

Kazuo Torii Nakamura, Tomohei Sasada

The exact analytical forms of the low-temperature free energy, and longitudinal and transverse correlation functions are obtained for the continuum model of the classical one-dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnet in a magnetic field. The calculated results show a few leading terms in series expansion with respect to the reduced temperature. It is also pointed out that the low-temperature free energy can not be identified with its counterpart for the XY model in a magnetic field.

Disordered magnetic impurities in uniaxial critical quantum spin chains

Andreas Klümper, Andrei A. Zvyagin

We calculate exactly the thermodynamics of ensembles of magnetic impurities with randomly distributed host-impurity couplings in the critical region of the uniaxial spin-1/2 quantum chain. We derive a finite set of integral equations describing the complete temperature and magnetic field dependence of the system. Exact numerical results for arbitrary values of temperature and external magnetic field are obtained. We show that for strong disorder the quenching of the impurity moments is absent. For weak disorder the screening persists, but with a critical non-Fermi-liquid behaviour of the magnetic susceptibility and specific heat. We point out that the `easy-plane' magnetic anisotropy does not qualitatively change the behaviour of the thermodynamic characteristics of the disordered impurities in the antiferromagnetic chain. On the other hand, anisotropy of ferromagnetic type can enhance the tendency to quenching of the impurities for strong disorder.
