Abstract

We derive the exact reduced dynamics of a central two-qubit system in a spin star configuration. The exact evolution of the reduced system density matrix is obtained and we compute the limit of an infinite number of environment spins. Initially pure states of the central system evolve into mixed ones and we determine the decoherence-free states of the model. The long-time behavior is studied, partial decoherence is shown to be a result of the coupling of the qubits to the environment, and entanglement evolution of the central system is investigated.

Non-Markovian Reduced Dynamics and Entanglement Evolution of Central Spin Models in Quantum Spin Environments

Hsi‐Sheng Goan

We discuss two central spin models coupled, respectively, to a quantum Heisenberg XY spin star environment [1] and to an antiferromagnetic environment [2]. In the first model [1], the exact quantum dynamics of the reduced density matrix of two coupled spin qubits in a quantum Heisenberg XY spin star environment in the thermodynamic limit at arbitrarily finite temperatures is obtained using a novel operator technique. In this approach, the transformed Hamiltonian becomes effectively Jaynes-Cumming like and thus the analysis is also relevant to cavity quantum electrodynamics. This special operator technique is mathematically simple and physically clear, and allows us to treat systems and environments that could all be strongly coupled mutually and internally. To study their entanglement evolution, the concurrence of the reduced density matrix of the two coupled central spins is also obtained exactly. It is shown that the dynamics of the entanglement depends on the initial state of the system and the coupling strength between the two coupled central spins, the thermal temperature of the spin environment and the interaction between the constituents of the spin environment. We also investigate the effect of detuning which in our model can be controlled by the strength of a locally applied external magnetic field. It is found that the detuning has a significant effect on the entanglement generation between the two spin qubits.

Non-Markovian dynamics in a spin star system: Exact solution and approximation techniques

Heinz‐Peter Breuer, Daniel Klaus Burgarth, Francesco Petruccione

The reduced dynamics of a central spin coupled to a bath of $N$ spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particles arranged in a spin star configuration is investigated. The exact time evolution of the reduced density operator is derived, and an analytical solution is obtained in the limit $N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\infty}$ of an infinite number of bath spins, where the model shows complete relaxation and partial decoherence. It is demonstrated that the dynamics of the central spin cannot be treated within the Born-Markov approximation. The Nakajima-Zwanzig and the time-convolutionless projection operator technique are applied to the spin star system. The performance of the corresponding perturbation expansions of the non-Markovian equations of motion is examined through a comparison with the exact solution.

An exactly solvable model for the dynamics of two spin-\frac{1}{2} particles embedded in separate spin star environments

Yamen Hamdouni

Exact analytical results for the dynamics of two interacting qubits, each of which is embedded in its own spin star bath, are presented. The time evolution of the concurrence and the purity of the two-qubit system are investigated for finite and infinite numbers of environmental spins. The effect of qubit–qubit interactions on the steady state of the central system is investigated.

We investigate the exact evolution of the reduced dynamics of a one qubit system as central spin coupled to a femionic layered environment with unlimited number of layers. Also, we study the decoherence induced on central spin by analysis solution is obtained in the limit $N\rightarrow\infty$ of an infinite number of bath spins. Finally, the Nakajima-Zwanzig (NZ) and the time-convolutionless (TCL) projection operator techniques to second order are derived.

Qubit-environment entanglement in pure dephasing dynamics for mixed initial states

Małgorzata Strzałka, Nico Peters, Laura Ares +2 more

Decoherence of qubits is one main limitation in quantum information processing, where the qubits themselves can be mixed because of decoherence and additional decoherence may generated through interactions with a bath. Here, we present a complete study of qubit-environment entanglement in the case of interactions that lead to pure dephasing of the qubit by allowing the initial state of the qubit to be mixed, exceeding previous restrictions. We find that the criteria for separability that hold for pure initial states of the qubit are reduced to witness status. Yet, the evolution of the witnesses reflects the array of features that entanglement can exhibit in the mixed case but are forbidden in the pure-qubit case. Most notably, this includes sudden birth of entanglement as the initial phase of the evolution is typically separable. Moreover, there is a stark numerical advantage to the study of entanglement for large environments when using the witness rather than the traditional measures available. We include the study of entanglement generated between a spin qubit and a sparse spin environment to illustrate the peculiarities of the evolution of entanglement in this case, as well as to emphasize the level of reliability of the entanglement witness.
