The decoherence and entanglement dynamics of two interacting qubits coupled through Heisenberg XY interactions to a spin bath in thermal equilibrium are studied. The exact form of the reduced density matrix is derived for finite and infinite numbers of environmental spins. It is shown that decoherence can be minimized at low bath temperatures and strong coupling between the qubits. Some initial product states evolve into entangled ones, initially entangled states lose completely or partially their entanglement. The relation between the fidelity and the concurrence is also investigated.

The dynamics of entanglement and fidelity for a subsystem of two separate spin-1∕2 qubits prepared in Bell states is investigated. One of the subsystem qubit labeled A is under the influence of a Heisenberg XY spin bath, while another one labeled B is uncoupled with that. We discuss two cases: (i) the number of bath spins is infinite, $N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\infty}$, and (ii) N is finite, N=40. In both cases, the bath is initially prepared in a thermal equilibrium state. It is shown that the time dependence of the concurrence and the fidelity of the two subsystem qubits can be controlled by tuning the parameters of the spin bath, such as the anisotropic parameter, the temperature, and the coupling strength with qubit A. It is interesting to find that the dynamics of the concurrence is independent of four different initial Bell states and that of the fidelity is divided into two groups.
We investigate the reduced dynamics of two qubits coupled to an interacting quantum spin bath modeled by a XXZ spin chain. By using the method of time-dependent density matrix renormalization group (t-DMRG), it is shown that when the spin bath is in an ordering state, the reduced dynamics of qubits strongly depends on the range of the spin chain that qubits coupled to. Only for ordering spin baths, both decoherence and entanglement show qualitatively different behaviors when the coupling range changes. In particular, In particular, we find that in the parametic regime where there is no ordering in the bath, the coupling range is irrelevant. On the other hand, for ordering spin baths, when the coupling range increases from local coupling to infinite range coupling, the reduced dynamics of qubits exhibits a transition in which initially entangled states no longer suffers from the entanglement sudden death when the coupling range is large.
The exact quantum dynamics of the reduced density matrix of two coupled spin qubits in a quantum Heisenberg XY spin star environment in the thermodynamic limit at arbitrarily finite temperatures is obtained using an operator technique. In this approach, the transformed Hamiltonian becomes effectively Jaynes-Cumming-like and thus the analysis is also relevant to cavity quantum electrodynamics. This special operator technique is mathematically simple and physically clear, and allows us to treat systems and environments that could all be strongly coupled mutually and internally. To study their entanglement evolution, the concurrence of the reduced density matrix of the two coupled central spins is also obtained exactly. It is shown that the dynamics of the entanglement depends on the initial state of the system and the coupling strength between the two coupled central spins, the thermal temperature of the spin environment, and the interaction between the constituents of the spin environment. We also investigate the effect of detuning, which in our model can be controlled by the strength of a locally applied external magnetic field. It is found that the detuning has a significant effect on the entanglement generation between the two-spin qubits.
The entanglement of two qubits, each defined as an effective two-level, spin 1/2 system, is investigated for the case that the qubits interact via a Heisenberg XY interaction and are subject to decoherence due to population relaxation and thermal effects. For zero temperature, the time-dependent concurrence is studied analytically and numerically for some typical initial states, including a separable (unentangled) initial state. An analytical formula for non-zero steady state concurrence is found for any initial state, and optimal parameter values for maximizing steady state concurrence are given. The steady state concurrence is found analytically to remain non-zero for low, finite temperatures. We also identify the contributions of global and local coherence to the steady state entanglement.
The reduced dynamics of a single qubit or two qubits coupled to an interacting quantum spin bath modeled by an XXZ spin chain is investigated. By using the method of a time-dependent density matrix renormalization group (t-DMRG), we go beyond the uniform coupling central spin model and nonperturbatively evaluate the induced decoherence and entanglement. It is shown that both the decoherence and the entanglement strongly depend on the phase of the underlying spin bath. We show that in general, spin baths can induce entanglement for an initially disentangled pair of qubits. Furthermore, when the spin bath is in the ferromagnetic phase because the qubits directly couple to the order parameter, the reduced dynamics shows an oscillatory type behavior. On the other hand, only for the paramagnetic and the antiferromagnetic phases do the initially entangled states suffer from an entanglement sudden death. By calculating the concurrence, the finite disentanglement time is mapped out for all of the phases in the phase diagram of the spin bath.
The dynamics of two 1∕2-spin qubits under the influence of a quantum Heisenberg XY-type spin-bath is studied. After the Holstein-Primakoff transformation, numerical polynomial scheme is used to give the time-evolution calculation of the center qubits initially prepared in a product state or a Bell state. Then the concurrence of the two qubits, the z-component moment of either of the subsystem spins, and the fidelity of the subsystem are shown; they exhibit sensitive dependence on the anisotropic parameter, the temperature, the coupling strength, and the initial state. It is found that (i) the larger the anisotropic parameter $\ensuremath{\gamma}$, the bigger the probability of maintaining the initial state of the two qubits; (ii) with increasing temperature T, the bath plays a stronger destroy effect on the dynamics of the subsystem, so does the interaction g0 between the subsystem and the bath; and (iii) the time evolution of the subsystem is dependent on the initial state. The revival of the concurrence does not always mean the restoration of the state. Further, the dynamical properties of the subsystem should be judged by the combination of concurrence and fidelity.
