Abstract

We report on the observation of optical phase-conjugation (OPC) in Acid blue 9 dye-doped gelatin film using a low-power continuous-wave (He–Ne, 633 nm, 35 mW) laser by the degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) method. The intensity of the phase-conjugate signal was measured as a function of time of exposure. The phase-conjugate signal contributions from induced transmission and reflection gratings were measured. The fringe spacing (Λ) of the transmission and reflection gratings formed in the Acid blue 9 dye film were calculated as 5.12 and 0.32 µm respectively.

LOW-POWER CONJUGATE INTERFEROMETRY (DOUBLE-EXPOSURE) IN DYE-DOPED GELATIN FILM USING OPTICAL PHASE-CONJUGATION

T. Geethakrishnan, P. K. Palanisamy

Optical phase-conjugation (OPC) was observed in Acid blue 9 dye-doped gelatin via degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) using a low-power He-Ne laser at 633 nm. Phase-conjugate (PC) signal measurements were made by varying the angle of incidence between the forward-pump beam and the probe beam in the degenerate four-wave mixing geometry. Growth of phase-conjugate signal with respect to the recording time was also measured. Finally double-exposure phase-conjugate interferometry was demonstrated in these dye doped gelatin films.

Phase Conjugation Using Four‐Wave Mixing in Fast Green FCF Dye‐Doped Gelatin Film

M.H. Majles Ara, Simin Mehrabani, Rasoul Malekfar

We present optical phase conjugation based on the degenerate four‐wave mixing (DFWM) arrangement in gelatin films doped with acid blue 3 dye (FAST GREEN FCF) using He‐Ne laser of total power 50 mW. Various parameters which influence the phase‐conjugate (PC) signal during the DFWM process were studied (angle of between the forward pump and the probe beam, transition of gelatin film, reflectivity as a function of forward and backward beam). A maximum phase‐conjugate beam reflectivity of about 0.02% has been observed in these dye‐doped gelatin films. PACS: 42.65.‐k, 42.65.Hw.

Demonstration of Optical Phase-conjugation in Methyl Green Dye-doped Thin Film

Optical Phase-Conjugation (OPC) has been observed in Methyl Green (MG) dye sensitized gelatin films in Degenerate Four-Wave Mixing (DFWM) configuration at 633 nm radiation from a He-Ne laser of total power 35 mW.The mechanism of Phase-Conjugate (PC) wave generation associated with this dye-doped system was discussed. The dependence of the PC wave generation on the incident angle between the forward-pump and the probe beams and time of evolution were also studied.A maximum phase-conjugate beam reflectivity of about 0.13% has been observed in this dye-doped gelatin films.

Optical phase conjugation in dyes embedded in polymer films

K. P. B. Moosad, Tabish Rasheed, Vadakkedathu P. N. Nampoori

Studies on low power optical phase conjugation (OPC) in three saturable dyes, viz., eosin, erythrosin B, and rose bengal, embedded in two polymer films, viz., gelatin and polyvinyl alcohol, are presented. Experiments are performed using the 514.5 nm line of an argon-ion laser. Saturation intensities are determined from the transmission versus intensity plots, and triplet lifetimes are estimated from the phosphorescence decay curves. OPC experiments are performed, and the variation of OPC reflectivity with intensity and absorption length is studied. Experimental results are compared with the theory of degenerate four-wave mixing in absorbing media proposed by R. L. Abrams and R. C. Lind [Opt. Lett. 2(4), 94 (1 978)]. There is fair agreement between the theory and the experimental observations. The limitations in using these films for cw OPC applications are briefly discussed.

Optical phase conjugation in methylene blue films

A. T. Reghunath, Chinnia Subramanian, P. S. Narayanan +1 more

Optical phase conjugation in methylene blue sensitized gelatin film has been obtained with 514.5-nm radiation from an argon-ion laser with power levels as low as 50 mW/cm(2) for the pump beam in a degenerate four-wavemixing configuration. The film with a thickness of 110-120 microm prepared from a solution of a 1.8-mmol concentration of methylene blue sensitized gelatin shows a good phase-conjugate reflectivity of 0.5% for this power level at 514.5 nm, which is well away from its absorption peak at ~ 650 nm.
