Abstract

Optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability (OM) behavior in molecular magnets is theoretically studied. It is demonstrated that the OB of the system can be controlled via adjusting the magnetic field intensity. In addition, it is shown that the frequency detuning of probe and coupling fields, as well as the cooperation parameter, has remarkable effects on the OB behavior of the system. Also, we find that OB can be converted to OM through the magnitude of control-field detuning. Our results can be used as a guideline for optimizing and controlling the switching process in the crystal of molecular magnets.

External magnetic field-assisted polarization-dependent optical bistability and multistability in a degenerate two-level EIT medium

Abstract In this paper, a novel degenerate two-level model is proposed to study the behavior of optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability (OM) under the effect of the magnetic field and relative phase. We show that the behavior of the OB can appear in the resonant regime by changing the strength of the external magnetic field. Especially, the result has shown that it is possible to easily convert between OB and OM by adjusting the strength of the external magnetic field or coupling field in the presence of the relative phase. In addition, the influence of the probe detuning and the atomic cooperation parameter on the OB behavior have also been considered. The studied results may be helpful for optical communication applications in optical switching processing and optimization.

Controllable Optical Bistability in a Crystal of Molecular Magnets System

Ji-Bing Liu, Xin‐You Lü, Xiangying Hao +2 more

We investigate the formation of optical histahility (OB) in a crystal of molecular magnets contained in a unidirectional ring cavity. The crystal is subjected to one dc magnetic field and two (probe and coupling) ac resonant magnetic field. The results show that OB can be controlled efficiently by adjusting the intensity of the control field, the detuning of probe magnetic field and the cooperation parameter. Furthermore, within certain parameter range, the optical multistablity (OM) can also be observed in the crystal medium. This investigation can be used for designing new types of nonelectronic devices for realizing switching process.

Controllable Optical Bistability and Multistability in a Four-Level Atomic System with Closed-Loop Configuration

Xin‐You Lü, Jiahua Li, Ji-Bing Liu

We theoretically investigate optical bistability (OB) and multistability (OM) behaviour of a closed-loop configuration atomic system driven by a degenerate coupling field and a degenerate probe field inside a unidirectional ring cavity. It is found that the OB and OM behaviour can be controlled by adjusting the intensity and the frequency detuning of the coupling field, respectively. Interestingly, our numerical results show that it is easy to realize the transition from OB to OM or vice versa by adjusting the intensity of the coupling field under a appropriate frequency detuning. The effect of the atomic cooperation parameter on the OB behaviour is also discussed.

Controllable optical bistability and multistability in a double two-level atomic system

We theoretically investigate the behaviour of optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability (OM) in a generic double two-level atomic system driven by two orthogonally polarized fields (a π-polarized control field and a σ-polarized probe field). It is found that the behaviour of OB can be controlled by adjusting the intensity or the frequency detuning of the control field. Interestingly enough, our numerical results also show that it is easy to realize the transition from OB to OM or vice versa by adjusting the relative phase between the control and probe fields. This investigation can be used for the development of new types of devices for realizing an all-optic switching process.

Optical bistability and multistability via atomic coherence in the quasi-Λ-type atomic system

Chen Ai

The steady-state optical bistability(OB) and optical multistability(OM) behavior in the quasi——type atomic system driven by a probe field and a coherent coupling field inside a unidirectional ring cavity are shown, and the effects of coupling-field detuning and coupling-field intensity on the OB and OM behavior are investigated. The transition from OB to OM or vice versa is found by varying the detuning of the coherent coupling field or by adjusting the intensity of the coupling field. The influence of the atomic cooperation parameter on the OM behavior is also discussed.

Optical bistability and multistability via atomic coherence in an N -type atomic medium

Jiahua Li, Xin‐You Lü, Jing-Min Luo +1 more

We analyze hybrid absorptive-dispersive optical bistability (OB) and multistability (OM) behavior in a generic $N$-type atomic system driven by a degenerate probe field and a coherent coupling field by means of a unidirectional ring cavity. We show that the OB can be controlled by adjusting the intensity and the detuning of the coupling field, and the OM can also be observed under the appropriate detuning. The influence of the atomic cooperation parameter on atomic OB behavior is also discussed.
