Nonspurious harmonic oscillator states in single particle coordinates

Abstract

A procedure for the construction of nonspurious harmonic oscillator wave functions with arbitrary permutational symmetry has recently been proposed. The resulting wave functions are expressed in terms of normalized Jacobi coordinates, and involve a new type of harmonic oscillator coefficients of fractional parentage. A simple algorithm to transform these states from the Jacobi coordinates to the single particle coordinates is presented. This is a generalization to an arbitrary number of particles of the harmonic oscillator transformation from center-of-mass and relative coordinates to single particle coordinates.

Unitary Symmetry of Oscillators and the Talmi Transformation

Bruria Kaufman, C. C. Noack

The Hamiltonian of an isotropic harmonic oscillator is invariant under unitary transformations in three dimensions. This well-known invariance is exploited in a treatment of the Talmi transformation, viz., the transformation of two-particle oscillator functions to center-of-mass and relative coordinates. A simple and transparent form of this transformation in terms of rotation matrices and Wigner coefficients of SU3 is given. The calculation of these Wigner coefficients is described and the problem of degeneracies discussed.

Simple construction of the unitary operator to transform from individual particles to Jacobi coordinates

Fan Hong‐Yi, Jack Vanderlinde

The unitary operator for transforming individual particles' coordinates to Jacobi coordinates is constructed in terms of a simple mapping of the classical transformation to quantum Hilbert space in Dirac's coordinate representation. The corresponding normally ordered form of the unitary operator is easily obtained by integration within ordered products.

Independent Bases on the Spatial Wavefunction of Three-Identical-Particle Systems

Xianhui Liu

A simple and intuitional prescription for constructing the independent bases on the spatial wavefunctions of three-identical-particle systems is proposed. The basis functions for are given in the explicit expressions based on the harmonic oscillator model. The advantage of this prescription is that the operation is directly proceeded in the center of mass system and can be programmed for the arbitrary N .

Five-body Moshinsky brackets

Shuyuan Xiao, Xueli Mu, Zhixuan Deng +1 more

In variational calculations with harmonic oscillator wavefunctions as trial bases, the transformation coefficients that relate harmonic oscillator wavefunctions in two different sets of internal coordinates are convenient to the evaluation of some matrix elements. Here, we present the explicit expression of these transformation coefficients for five-body systems. These transformation coefficients can be collected in a matrix according to the quantum number N of harmonic oscillator shell and can be programmed for arbitrary N.

On a center-of-mass system of coordinates for symmetric classical and quantum many-body problems

Érik Amorim

In the context of classical or quantum many-body problems involving identical bodies, a linear change of coordinates can be constructed with the properties that it includes the center-of-mass as one of the new coordinates and preserves the inherent permutation symmetry of both the Hamiltonian and the admissible states. This has advantages over the usual system of Jacobi coordinates in the study of many-body problems for which permutation symmetry of the bodies plays an important role. This paper contains the details of the construction of this system and the proof that these properties uniquely determine it up to trivial modifications. Examples of applications to both classical and quantum problems are explored, including a generalization to problems involving groups of different species of bodies.

Center-of-Mass Motion in Many-Particle Systems

S. Gartenhaus, Charles Schwartz

An explicit construction is found for a unitary operator which insures the free motion of the center of mass of any many-particle wave function on which it is allowed to act. The transformation is used to calculate recoil correction terms for the internal energy and external interactions of nuclei, and some numerical evaluations are given for cases of interest. The many-body harmonic-oscillator problem is exactly soluble when one uses the transformation, and one is thus enabled to give a more general discussion of the spurious states.
