Abstract

Analytic expression is given for the static cooperative quenching kinetics in crystals with arbitrary acceptor concentration and arbitrary multipolarity of interaction. For the quenching by two acceptors, the results of Monte-Carlo simulation are also presented which can be approximated in the long-time domain by the nonexponential law I ( t )≅exp[−( wt ) k ], with k =0.41, 0.3, and 0.25 for the multipolarities S =6, 8, and 10, respectively.

Kinetic behavior of the Baxter-Wu model with quenched impurities

M. A. Novotny, David Paul Landau

We have used a standard single-spin-flip Monte Carlo method to study the kinetic behavior of the Baxter-Wu model with temperatures T>${T}_{c}$ for both zero impurities and 11.1 at. % quenched, random nonmagnetic site impurities. For the pure model we find that the linear and nonlinear relaxation are described by a dynamic exponent z=\ensuremath{\Delta}/\ensuremath{\nu}=2.0. With the addition of impurities the exponent for the linear relaxation increases to a value of z\ensuremath{\approxeq}2.8 in approximate agreement with the predictions of renormalization-group theory. The nonlinear relaxation in the impure lattice diverges more slowly than the linear relaxation but in a manner which is not completely consistent with proposed scaling theory.

Upconversion assisted decay of population inversion in Er-doped silica after delta-pulse excitation

Dmitry Khoptyar, Sergey V. Sergeyev, B. Jaskorzyńska

We investigate homogeneous upconversion (HUC) assisted decay of the population inversion in Er-doped silica after delta-pulse excitations by means of Monte Carlo simulations. We derive an analytic expression for this decay when energy migration among Er is negligible and show that it is essentially an extension of the Fo/spl uml/rster-type donor-acceptor quenching decay for the case when donor and acceptor ions are the same species. We compare HUC during the decay to HUC while pumping CW and show that they considerably differ at the low and moderate Er concentrations. Based on Monte Carlo (MC) simulations, we construct a heuristic approximation to the HUC assisted decay, which makes our MC results readily available for the future experimental and theoretical studies and provides simple means for determination of HUC parameters by fitting to experimental data.
