Abstract

Given work is devoted to investigation of effect of non-Faraday rotation of polarization vector of a photon echo at influence of a constant magnetic field on the resonant environment (molecular iodine vapors) in a longitudinal direction1-4. Magnetic field was created by the solenoid. The time interval between excite pulses accepts one of the fixed values. Experimental devices for detection of non-Faraday rotation of polarization vector of photon echo are developed and experimental dependences of an angle of this rotation from the value of magnetic field intensity and electric current are received. The method on the basis of a photon echo of intensity registration of magnetic field and electric current is developed. Accuracy of magnetic field parameters registration on the basis of the offered method of measurement is determined. Recommendations to use this method for the control of current of electro transmission line are produced.

Physical measurings and quantum control in technique of a photon echo

Ivan I. Popov, Andrey M. Gladyshev, K.Sh. Gazizov

The effect of the rotating of the photon echo polarization vector is offered for a construction of the opto-electronic current transformer. As an active medium that allows get the photon echo the vapors of molecular iodine are used. The theoretical model of the opto-electronic current transformer is discussed. The results of investigation of photon echo (PE), excited by complexly coded laser pulses in molecular Iodine vapors under action of the homogeneous longitudinal magnetic field are given in this work. The recording possibility of special information by exciting pulses on a pair of quantum levels of resonant gas (molecular Iodine vapors) in technique PE is shown experimentally. In this shown experiment the information has two by two values of two relevant features and is represented by the amplitude-time shape and direction of linear polarization vector of radiation. The possibility of using the detected features of formation PE under the action of magnetic field for development the physical principles of the quantum control and for optical information processing introduced by hypercomplex number - quaternion - is shown.

Visual method of identification of the resonant transition

Ildus S. Bikbov, Ivan I. Popov, Anatolii N. Leukhin

Visual method of identification of the branch type of resonant transition is suggested in this paper. The method is basedon the measurement ofratio ofprimary photon echo amplitude to stimulated photon echo amplitude in the magnetic field, when the effect of non-Faraday rotation of the photon echo polarization vector is occurred. The experimental results ofidentification of the resonant transitions in the vapor of molecular iodine are demonstrated. The results were checked bythe measurement ofthe maximum rotation angle range ofprimary photon polarization vector. This parameter is similarlycharacterized the resonam transition. For the first time fact ofregistration ofthe non-Faraday rotation polarization vectorofstimulated echo, formed on the different resonant transitions (Q-branch or P(R)-hranch), is reported. Keywords: primary photon echo, stimulated photon echo, identification of the resonant transitions, non-Faraday rotationof the photon echo polarization, vapors of molecular iodine, magnetic field, Q -

Polarization rotation of photon echo at J = 0 ↔ 1 transition in magnetic field

В. Н. Ищенко, Sergei A. Kochubei, Хворостов Евгений Борисович +2 more

Detailed experimental analysis of photon echo polarization in a longitudinal magnetic field is performed for the first time at the simplest quantum transition J = 1 ↔ J = 0 for which the non-Faraday rotation of photon echo polarization plane was predicted. The echo was generated at the intercombination transition (6s6p) 3P1 → (6s2) 1S0 of 174Yb by two resonant laser pulses of linear (parallel or mutually orthogonal) polarization, and the angled echo optical scheme was applied for the detection. At the magnetic field strength ℬ ⩽ 5 G the photon echo has polarization very close to linear one; its polarization plane rotates around magnetic field vector, and photon echo polarization components and integral echo power oscillate versus ℬ from its maximum value to zero, in agreement with theory. At a stronger magnetic field ℬ ∼ 40 G photon echo power oscillations disappear, no preferable orientation of polarization vector is observed; the fluctuations of exciting radiation spectrum are supposed to be responsible for this "non-polarized" echo.

Non-Faraday rotation of photon-echo polarization in ytterbium vapor

Н. Н. Рубцова, В. Н. Ищенко, Хворостов Евгений Борисович +3 more

Non-Faraday rotation of photon-echo polarization was investigated at the $J=1\ensuremath{\leftrightarrow}J=0$ transition in a wide range of longitudinal magnetic field strength. The echo was generated at the intercombination transition $(6s6p)^{3}P_{1}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}(6{s}^{2})^{1}S_{0}$ of $^{174}\mathrm{Yb}$ by two resonant laser pulses of linear (parallel or mutually orthogonal) polarization. A detailed analysis of the echo polarization performed by an angled echo technique has shown quite different behavior in the weak and strong magnetic field limits. The photon echo has polarization close to linear at a magnetic field strength $\mathcal{B}\ensuremath{\leqslant}5\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{G}$; its polarization plane rotates around the magnetic field vector clockwise or counterclockwise depending on the magnetic field orientation relative to the wave vector. The photon-echo polarization components and echo power oscillate as functions of $\mathcal{B}$. As the magnetic field increases, the oscillations become smaller and almost disappear at a magnetic field $\mathcal{B}\ensuremath{\approx}40\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{G}$; the photon echo does not disappear at this magnetic field, but its polarization vector no longer has a preferred orientation. Numerical calculations of the photon echo generated at a spectral wide line agree with the experimental behavior of the photon-echo polarization for an arbitrary magnetic field.

Anatolii N. Leukhin, Ivan I. Popov, Igor N. Polyakov

For a construction of the opto-electronic current transformer the effect of rotating of the photon echo (PE) polarization vector is offered. As an active ambience allowing get the photon echo the vapors of molecular iodine are used. The theoretical model of the opto-electronic current transformer (OECT) is discussed. The explanatory graphs of the n echo polarization vector rotating effect, as well as the principle scheme of the current measurement, are shown in the paper.

Polarization rotation of photon echoes in cesium vapor in a magnetic field

Thomas M. Baer, Isaac D. Abella

We report observations of the rotation of the plane of polarization of photon echoes by a weak axial magnetic field. The echoes are generated on the $6{S}_{\frac{1}{2}}$ to $7{P}_{\frac{1}{2}}$ transition in cesium (4593 \AA{}) by a sequence of two collinear laser pulses polarized in the same direction. When a magnetic field is applied along the propagation axis the polarization vector of the echo is rotated from that of the exciting pulses. We measure the intensity of the photon echo signal polarized orthogonal to the excitation pulse polarization as a function of magnetic field and pulse separation. The theoretical analysis decribes cesium atoms as a nondegenerate multilevel system, consisting of ground and excited Zeeman-split hyperfine-structure levels. The theory presented predicts the observed dependence on magnetic field strength, pulse separation, and excited- and ground-state $g$ factors. A novel method of observing photon echoes is described which uses the polarization rotation effect to replace electro-optical shutters often employed in photon echo experiments.
