Abstract

We theoretically investigate nonlinear excitations in a double quantum dot (DQD). Here an antenna system couples with one of the quantum dots, and enhances the effective light-DQD interactions. It is found that a flexible and strong nonlinearity of the excitations in the coupled system. This nonlinearity is caused by quantum interferences due to the antenna-enhanced decay rates in the DQD and scattering paths in DQD.

Energy shift and subharmonics induced by nonlinearity in a quantum dot system

Yuan Lin Zhou, Gang Cao, Hai-Ou Li +1 more

The presence of anticrossings induced by coupling between two states causes curvature in energy levels, yielding a nonlinearity in the quantum system. When the system is driven back and forth along the bending energy levels, subharmonic transitions and energy shifts can be observed, which would cause a significant influence as the system is applied to quantum computing. In this paper, we study a longitudinally driven singlet-triplet (ST) system in a double quantum dot (DQD) system, and illustrate the consequences of nonlinearity by driving the system close to the anticrossings. We provide a straightforward theory to quantitatively describe the energy shift and subharmonics caused by nonlinearity, and find good agreement between our theoretical result and the numerical simulation. Our results reveal the existence of nonlinearity in the vicinity of anticrossings and provide a direct way of analytically assessing its impact, which can be applied to other quantum systems without excessive labor.

Controlling Kerr nonlinearity with electric fields in asymmetric double quantum-dots

Yiwen Jiang, Ka-Di Zhu

The control of Kerr nonlinearity with electric fields in an asymmetric double quantum-dot systems coupling with tunneling is investigated theoretically. It is found that,by proper tuning of two light beams and tunneling via a bias voltage, the Kerr nonlinearity can be enhanced and varied within a wide scale.

Study of the linear and nonlinear optical properties of quantum dot molecules: Tunneling induced transparency

Heydarpour, Ghobad, Daneshfar, Nader

In the present work, the linear and nonlinear optical properties of quantum dot molecules composed of two quantum dots as well as three quantum dots molecules, respectively known as double quantum dot (DQD) molecule and triple quantum dot (TQD) molecules are studied using the probability amplitude method, and the obtained results are discussed and compared. By solving the state equations of these systems in the interaction picture, under the rotating wave approximation and the dipole approximation, the first and third-order susceptibilities for DQD and TQD molecules are calculated. A phenomenon called tunneling-induced transparency (TIT) which is similar to electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is studied in these types of quantum dot molecules. The effect of key system parameters such as tunneling couplings between quantum dots and the tunneling intensity on the linear and nonlinear optical response of multiple quantum dot molecules DQD and TQD is investigated. It was shown that the position and the width of the TIT window created in these quantum dot molecules can be tuned by changing the physical parameters.

Probing Two Driven Double Quantum Dots Strongly Coupled to a Cavity

Si‐Si Gu, Sigmund Kohler, Yong-Qiang Xu +8 more

We experimentally and theoretically study a driven hybrid circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) system beyond the dispersive coupling regime. Treating the cavity as part of the driven system, we develop a theory applicable to such strongly coupled and to multiqubit systems. The fringes measured for a single driven double quantum dot (DQD)-cavity setting and the enlarged splittings of the hybrid Floquet states in the presence of a second DQD are well reproduced with our model. This opens a path to study Floquet states of multiqubit systems with arbitrarily strong coupling and reveals a new perspective for understanding strongly driven hybrid systems.

Plasmonic electromagnetic-induced transparency from double quantum dot–metal nanoparticle structure

Asaad H. Hameed, Amin Habbeb AL-Khursan

This work studies the energy absorption rates in the case of plasmonic electromagnetically induced transparency (PEIT) from the double quantum dot (DQD)–metal nanoparticle (MNP) system. The orthogonalized plane wave between the wetting layer (WL) and QD transitions is considered. PEIT is not attained under a single applied field. It is obtained under a probe, pump, and two tunneling components. Two asymmetric PEIT windows can result from the transitions between the sixth energy states of the DQD structure. A huge Qtotal value (10−5 W) under 0.2 W/cm2 is obtained. Compared with other works, this result is higher by four orders, and the power applied is less by six orders than that used in earlier works. Our results exceed those obtained with double MNP-QD, QD-six MNP, and MNP-ten QDs. Such a vast result is ascribed to the manipulation flexibility in the DQD system, which is not found in all other structures. This possibility increases quantum correlation and the nonlinear optical properties of the DQD and the DQD–MNP system. The QD ( QQD) and MNP ( QMNP) absorption energy rates are also studied. Applying two tunneling components restores the system to peak at resonance due to the coupled work of the two dots as a DQD system. Strong plasmon–exciton coupling occurs when the probe power becomes considerable. Thus, the probe must not be so small.

The effect of geometrical shape on the nonlinear optical absorption spectrum of double, triple, and quadruple quantum dot molecules

Nader Daneshfar, P. Chavoshani, G. Heydarpour

In the present study, the effect of the geometrical shape of quantum dots on the nonlinear absorption coefficient of semiconductor quantum dot molecules (QDMs) is theoretically investigated. The nonlinear optical response of QDMs is analyzed using the density matrix formalism, because this theoretical framework provides a rigorous and unified method to describe the interaction between electromagnetic fields and confined carriers, enabling the derivation of both linear and higher-order nonlinear susceptibilities. Accordingly, the nonlinear optical absorption of double quantum dot molecules, triple quantum dot molecules, and quadruple quantum dot molecules coupled through tunneling is studied and compared. We show that the optical spectral response of QDMs is significantly affected by their shape and the strength of tunneling between coupled quantum dots of a QDM. The results indicate that the shape of quantum dots can significantly affect nonlinear optical absorption. In addition, the tunneling intensity between the closely quantum dots strongly affects the nonlinear absorption, and the width and number of transparency windows.
