Quantum dot spin-photon entanglement and photon-to-spin teleportation

Weibo Gao, P. Fallahi, Emre Togan +4 more

Entanglement plays a central role in fundamental tests of quantum mechanics as well as in the burgeoning field of quantum information processing. Particularly in the context of quantum networks and communication, a major challenge is the efficient generation of entanglement between stationary (spin) and flying (photon) qubits. Here we report the observation of quantum entanglement between a semiconductor quantum dot spin and the color of a propagating optical photon. As an extension experiment, we report the generation of a single-photon frequency qubit, interference of resonance fluorescence from two distant quantum dots and the teleportation from a flying photon to a quantum dot spin.

On demand single photon generation and coherent control of excitons from resonantly driven nanowire quantum dots

Jun Gao, Govind Krishna, Edith Yeung +6 more

Coherent control of single photon sources is a key requirement for the advancement of photonic quantum technologies. Among them, nanowire-based quantum dot sources are popular due to their potential for on-chip hybrid integration. Here, we demonstrate on-demand single-photon generation [g(2) (0) (X*) = 0.078] from resonantly excited InAsP/InP nanowire quantum dots and observe Rabi oscillations in the dot emission, indicating the successful coherent manipulation of the excitonic states in the nanowire. This work addresses the long-standing challenge of resonantly exciting nanowire-quantum dots. It paves the way for hybrid quantum photonic integration, enabling spin–photon entanglement and matter memories on-chip.

Polarization-correlated photon pairs from a single quantum dot

Charles Santori, David A. Fattal, Matthew A. Pelton +2 more

Polarization correlation in a linear basis, but not entanglement, is observed between the biexciton and single-exciton photons emitted by a single InAs quantum dot in a two-photon cascade. The results are well described quantitatively by a probabilistic model that includes two decay paths for a biexciton through a nondegenerate pair of one-exciton states, with the polarization of the emitted photons depending on the decay path. The results show that spin nondegeneracy due to quantum-dot asymmetry is a significant obstacle to the realization of an entangled-photon generation device.
