Electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency in V model

Abstract

A new scheme of electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency in a four-level V-type Doppler-broadened medium is presented in this paper. Under a proper condition, the two-photon absorption can be greatly reduced by applying a control laser field with relatively lower intensity compared with that needed in other field-induced multi-photon absorption reduction.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in ladder-type inhomogeneously broadened media: Theory and experiment

Julio R. Gea-Banacloche, Yongqing Li, Shaozheng Jin +1 more

We develop a theory of electromagnetically induced transparency in a three-level, ladder-type Doppler-broadened medium, paying special attention to the case where the coupling and probe beams are counterpropagating and have similar frequencies, so as to reduce the total Doppler width of the two-photon process. The theory is easily generalized to deal with the \ensuremath{\Lambda} configuration, where the ideal arrangement involves two copropagating beams. We discuss different possible regimes, depending on the relative importance of the various broadening mechanisms, and identify ways to optimize the absorption-reduction effect. The theory is compared to the results of a recent experiment (on a ladder-type system), using the Rb D2 line, with generally very good agreement. The maximum absorption reduction observed (64.4%) appears to be mostly limited by the relatively large (\ensuremath{\sim}5 MHz) linewidth of the diode lasers used in our experiment.

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Window in the System of Four-level Configuration

Wu Han-Hua

The absorption and dispersion properties of an N-type four-level system with Doppler(broadening) effect were investigated. In this system we considered two coherent fields and a probe field. When the second coherent field is absent, this system is a single three-level configuration, and the absorption line is just one clear electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) window. While the second coherent field exists, there are two EIT windows which become wide and deep with the(coherent) intensity increasing. The position width and absorbance of the transparency windows can be manipulated by adjusting the detuning of the driving field. In addition,we also found that the medium shows a large refractive index at each transparency window, and the group velocity of the probe laser can be reduced.

Simulation of double electromagnetically induced transparency in a four-level V-type system: A comparative study of probe and pump transmissions

Rohit Hazra, Md. Mabud Hossain

In this paper, we present the theoretical study of double electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a four-level V-type system which is formed by two co-propagating laser fields and the Zeeman sublevels of hyperfine transitions of 87Rb D2 line. The density matrix equations for the four-level V-type system are derived from the Liouville’s equation of motion and numerically solved under steady state condition to get the EIT signals. We consider both the probe and pump transmission spectra for the observation of double EIT signals under both Doppler free and Doppler broadened conditions. In case of Doppler free medium, two EIT peaks are formed in the two Lorentzian shape dips present in the both Doppler free probe and pump transmission spectra. When the medium becomes Doppler broadened, the two EIT peaks are formed in the probe transmission spectrum having Doppler broadened background, but the pump transmission spectrum gives two EIT peaks in the Doppler free background. The effect of probe intensity variation on the two EIT peaks is studied in case of Doppler broadened probe transmission spectrum. It is found that the heights of the EIT peaks decrease as the probe intensity increases, and interestingly one EIT peak converts into EIA (electromagnetically induced absorption) dip at some strong probe intensity value. The depth of the EIA dip is significantly increased as the intensity of the probe field increases. We also present the effect of probe intensity variation on the EIT peaks in the pump transmission spectrum and found that the EIT peak heights are increased as the probe intensity increases.

The effects of finite bandwidths of laser fields and Doppler broadening on electromagnetically induced two-photon transparency and absorption enhancement in a four-level system have been discussed in this paper. The optimum experimental arrangement of this system for reducing the Doppler effects of the three laser fields has been obtained by the calculation results.

Double electromagnetically induced transparency in a four-level lambda atomic system with doppler broadening

Hiền Nguyễn Thị Thu, Bang Nguyen Huy, Le Van Doai +1 more

In this paper, we study the formation of two electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) windows in a four-level lambda atomic system with Doppler broadening. The depth and the width of the EIT windows are easily changed by adjusting the intensity of the controlling laser fields. Meanwhile, the position of the EIT windows is also easily shifted by changing the frequency of the laser fields. In particular, by turning on or off one of the two coupling laser fields, the probe field response can be switched between one or two EIT window regimes, i.e., it is possible to switch between absorption and transparency regimes, and vice versa. In addition, our analytical model also allows one to investigate the influence of temperature (or Doppler width) on EIT windows, which is necessary for experimental observations as well as related applications at room temperature.

Local Modulation of Double Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Spectrum

Hou Bang-pin, Shun-Jin Wang, Yu Wan‐Lun +1 more

The double electromagnetically induced transparency induced by two coupling fields can be realized in a four-level tripod-type atom. Such double transparency spectra can be locally modulated by using the weak coherent fields to perturb the coupling transitions. These investigations within this scheme can be independent of Doppler broadening by properly orienting these fields.
