Nonlinear optics with incoherent light

Summary form only given. Recently we have shown using solid hydrogen that stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) can evolve spontaneously from the weak-coupling regime to the strong-coupling regime in which parametric anti-Stokes generation occurs without the restriction of phase-matching. In the present work, we extend this strong-coupling SRS to a more general parametric Raman sideband generation. We show using solid hydrogen as a nonlinear medium that the adiabatically-prepared Raman-coherence can beat with broadband incoherent fluorescence light and efficiently replicate the incoherence nature to the Raman sideband.

Efficient frequency conversion of incoherent fluorescent light

M. Katsuragawa, Jian Liang, Fam Le Kien +1 more

We demonstrate efficient replication of an incoherent fluorescent light with the ${1770\ensuremath{-}\mathrm{c}\mathrm{m}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$ broad bandwidth into its Raman sidebands with frequency spacing of 4150 ${\mathrm{cm}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}1}$ in a thin hydrogen crystal. We achieve a high conversion efficiency of 22% per sideband using a sufficiently large Raman coherence prepared by two collinearly propagating ns laser fields.

Impact of beat noise on an incoherent OCDMA system with temporal spreading

Bin Ni, J.S. Lehnert, Jin Zhang

An incoherent optical CDMA (OCDMA) system with temporal spreading that uses a light source with nonzero coherence time is studied in this paper. A model is established to simulate the incoherent combining of multiple light pulses at the receiver. System performances for different ratios of chip duration to coherence time are evaluated. Results show that the performance with a nonideal source is noticeably degraded from that of the ideal case due to beat noise.
