Ultrasharp lines without the rotating wave approximation

Abstract

We study the effects of the non-rotating wave approximation (non-RWA) on the spontaneous emission of a Λ-type three-level atom, where the metastable states are coupled to a common excited state by a weak laser field and the lower-level doublet is driven by a strong microwave field. When the non-RWA is applied to the interaction of the atom with the microwave field, the spontaneous emission spectrum is comprised of a series of ultrasharp lines. The physical interpretation of the spectral characteristics is given in light of the dressed states.

Counter-Rotating Transition Mediated Coherent Effects in Spontaneous Emission in a Three-Level Atom

Jun Xu, Xiangming Hu

The coherent effects including counter-rotating coupling on spontaneous emission are presented for a microwave driven V-type three-level atom. Novel coherent effects are realized: (i) There is an infinite series of spectral lines, which are separated by the microwave frequency, independent of the separation of the excited states, no matter whether the microwave transition is resonant or not. This is in sharp contrast to the case of the weak coupling, where the spectral interval is mainly determined by the separation of the excited states. (ii) Selective appearance and inhibition of the spectral lines are obtained simply by varying the microwave Rabi frequency. (iii) Spectral lines have a twofold structure. The physical mechanisms are analysed by employing the dressed states representation.

Control of spontaneous emission from a microwave-field-coupled three-level Λ -type atom in photonic crystals

Xiangqian Jiang, B. Zhang, Zhenzhong Lu +1 more

The spontaneous emission spectrum of a three-level $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atom driven by a microwave field was studied. For the two transitions coupled to the same modified reservoir, we discussed the influence of photonic band gap and Rabi frequency of the microwave field on the emission spectrum. The emission spectrum is given for different locations of the upper band-edge frequency. With the transition frequencies moving from outside the band gap to inside, the number of peaks decreases in the emission spectrum and the multipeak structure of spectral line is finally replaced by a strong non-Lorentzian shape. With increase of the Rabi frequency of the microwave field, we find the spectral line changes from a multipeak structure to a two-peak structure, originating from the inhibition of spontaneous emission for the corresponding decay channel.

Control of spontaneous emission from a micro-wave driven atomic system

We demonstrate coherent control of spontaneous emission from an indirectly coupled transition in a microwave driven four-level atomic system. The transition of concern is not directly coupled by any laser fields, while the ground state is coupled to another ground state by a microwave field. We show that the coupling of the microwave field produces interesting features such as double narrow lines in the emission spectrum. The heights, widths and positions of the emission peaks can be controlled by modifying the Rabi frequency and detuning of the microwave field. We discuss the spectra in the dressed states basis.

Modification and control of coherence effects in the spontaneous emission spectrum of a three-level atom at weak field regime

Bibhas Kumar Dutta, Pradipta Panchadhyayee

Abstract It has been shown that coherence effects have a marked influence in the spontaneous emission spectrum of a three-level Λ -type atom driven by weak coherent and incoherent fields. Phase dependent evolution of interference effects leading to spectral narrowing, generation of spectral hole and dark line are exhibited in the present scheme when the atom does not interact with the incoherent fields. The basic mechanism underlying this scheme seems to be appropriate for a phaseonium. Apart from phase-coherence introduced in the system the phenomenon of line narrowing, in the presence of weak incoherent pumping, can be achieved in a different way as a consequence of two competitive resonant effects: sharp non-Lorentzian and symmetric Fano-like-resonance contributions to the line shape. In both the situations, the evolution of narrow structures in the line shape can be achieved even when the emission is influenced by the dephasing of Raman coherence.

Effect of counter-rotating terms on the spontaneous emission in an anisotropic photonic crystal

Shuai Yang, M. Al-Amri, Shi‐Yao Zhu +1 more

The spontaneous emission of a two-level atom in a anisotropic photonic crystal is investigated without making use of the rotating wave approximation (RWA). Similar to the RWA case, there exist two characteristic atomic transition frequencies which separate the radiation field from the localized and propagated fields. Unlike the RWA calculation, these two characteristic frequencies are shifted due to a full calculation of the energy shifts.

Control of Spontaneous Emission of a Four-level Atom by a Microwave Field with Lower Frequency

We investigate theoretically the features of the spontaneous emission spectrum of a four-level atomic system driven by a coherent probe field,a coupling laser field and a microwave field. The two upper levels are coupled by a microwave field with lower frequency. The time evolution of the populations is calculated. It is shown that the spectra behavior, such as spectral-line narrowing,spectral-line enhancement,spectral-line suppression, and total cancellation of fluorescence quenching, can be easily controlled by changing the phase and the amplitude of the microwave field.
