Entanglement measures in the asymptotic limit

Abstract

We present an analytical formula for the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement for Werner states of arbitrary dimension. We then demonstrate its validity using methods from convex optimization. To our knowledge, this is the first case in which the value of a subadditive entanglement measure has been obtained in the asymptotic limit.

Asymptotic Relative Entropy of Entanglement

We present an analytical formula for the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement with respect to positive partial transpose states for Werner states of arbitrary dimension. We then demonstrate its validity using methods from convex optimization. This is the first case in which the asymptotic value of a subadditive entanglement measure has been calculated.

Asymptotic Equipartition Property of Subadditive Multipartite Entanglement Measures on Pure States

Dávid Bugár

We investigate the asymptotic equipartition property (AEP) in the context of multipartite entanglement measures on pure states. In particular, we formulate AEP for subadditive entanglement measures that admit certain weak conditions. This is motivated by the uniqueness of the entanglement entropy in the asymptotic limit in the bipartite case. From an operational perspective, the result is relevant in the LOCCqscenario (asymptotic local operations and classical communication with a sublinear amount of quantum communication). Analogously to the classical AEP, we show that the regularization of smooth, weakly additive entanglement measures - under mild additional assumptions -yields entanglement measures, that are weakly additive and asymptotically continuous. We then evaluate the mentioned regularization and smoothing procedure for a known family of Rényi type multipartite entanglement measures, showing that the resulting entanglement measures reduce to convex combinations of bipartite entanglement entropies.

Observable measures of multipartite entanglement

Francois Payn, Davide Girolami

Multipartite entanglement is the premier resource for quantum technologies. Yet, its exact quantification in the laboratory is notoriously challenging, typically requiring the full knowledge of high dimensional quantum states. Here, we construct observable bounds to multipartite entanglement for systems of arbitrary size, which are functions of the local and global state purities, and correlation functions. First, we derive experimentally accessible upper and lower limits to both the bipartite entanglement of formation and the squashed entanglement of bipartite systems, by leveraging cornerstone results of quantum information theory: the entropy strong subadditivity inequality and the Koashi-Winter monogamy relation. Then, we convert them into bounds to the entanglement up to degree k for arbitrary states, and to the genuine k-partite entanglement, by employing a recently proposed method. Finally, we analytically and numerically test these results, by bounding the multipartite entanglement of several relevant states and mixtures, including the important classes of GHZ, Dicke, W states, and random pure states.

Multinegativity and single-letter formulas for asymptotic entanglement

Raphael Brinster, Tulja Varun Kondra, Hermann Kampermann +2 more

The study of entanglement inevitably leads to the concept of regularization, where measures are evaluated on infinitely many copies of a state. Single-letter formulas try to make these asymptotic entanglement quantities accessible through a calculation on one copy of a state, but are rarely available. We introduce a decreasing hierarchy of computable upper bounds on the asymptotic relative entropy of entanglement with respect to positive-partial-transpose (PPT) states. The regularization of every fixed hierarchy level equals this asymptotic quantity. Additivity at any level therefore yields a single-letter formula, even when the usual one-copy relative entropy is nonadditive. We establish such additivity at the first nontrivial level for two broad multiparameter families, both containing all Werner states. The upper-bound construction also extends to sandwiched Renyi divergences. The hierarchy motivates $k$-multinegative states, a generalization of binegative states and the associated $k$-multinegativity, which gives explicit upper bounds on both the asymptotic relative entropy and exact PPT entanglement cost. We construct states which are $k$-multinegative at arbitrarily large depths $k$ that separate consecutive levels of the previously introduced entanglement-cost hierarchy, disproving its conjectured finite collapse. These results provide state-dependent single-letter formulas while identifying a limitation of universal finite-level characterizations.

Entanglement Rényi α entropy

Yuxin Wang, Liang-Zhu Mu, Vlatko Vedral +1 more

We study the entanglement R\'enyi $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ entropy $(\mathrm{ER}\ensuremath{\alpha}\mathrm{E})$ as the measure of entanglement. Instead of a single quantity in standard entanglement quantification for a quantum state by using the von Neumann entropy for the well-accepted entanglement of formation (EoF), the $\mathrm{ER}\ensuremath{\alpha}\mathrm{E}$ gives a continuous spectrum parametrized by variable $\ensuremath{\alpha}$ as the entanglement measure, and it reduces to the standard EoF in the special case $\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1$. The $\mathrm{ER}\ensuremath{\alpha}\mathrm{E}$ provides more information in entanglement quantification and can be used, for example, to determine the convertibility of entangled states by local operations and classical communication. A series of results is obtained: (i) we show that the $\mathrm{ER}\ensuremath{\alpha}\mathrm{E}$ of two states, which can be mixed or pure, may be incomparable, in contrast to the fact that there always exists an order for the EoF of two states; (ii) similar to the case of EoF, we study in a fully analytical way the $\mathrm{ER}\ensuremath{\alpha}\mathrm{E}$ for arbitrary two-qubit states, the Werner states, and isotropic states in the general $d$ dimension; and (iii) we provide a proof of the previous conjecture for the analytical functional form of the EoF of isotropic states in the arbitrary $d$ dimension.

The uniqueness theorem for entanglement measures

Matthew J. Donald, Michał Horodecki, Oliver Rudolph

We explore and develop the mathematics of the theory of entanglement measures. After a careful review and analysis of definitions, of preliminary results, and of connections between conditions on entanglement measures, we prove a sharpened version of a uniqueness theorem which gives necessary and sufficient conditions for an entanglement measure to coincide with the reduced von Neumann entropy on pure states. We also prove several versions of a theorem on extreme entanglement measures in the case of mixed states. We analyze properties of the asymptotic regularization of entanglement measures proving, for example, convexity for the entanglement cost and for the regularized relative entropy of entangle ment.
