Abstract

We consider the Heisenberg model with two-, and three-spin exchange interactions on a zigzag ladder in a strong magnetic field. Using the recursion method for the partition function in Ising approximation we have found exact results for the magnetization. We have shown the existence of magnetization plateaus in the case of mutual two-, and three-spin exchanges at low temperatures and different exchange parameters. The system exhibits different magnetic behaviors, depending on the values of the exchange parameters.

Solution of the antiferromagnetic Ising model with multisite interaction on a zigzag ladder

E. Jurčišinová, Marian Jurčisin

We consider the antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Ising model with multisite interaction in an external magnetic field on an infinite zigzag ladder. The model is solved exactly by using the transfer matrix method. Using the exact expression for the total magnetization per site, the magnetic properties of the model are investigated in detail. The model exhibits the formation of magnetization plateaus for low temperatures, and it is shown that their properties depend strongly on the strength of the multisite interaction. All possible ground states of the model are found and discussed. The existence of nontrivial singular ground states is proven and exact explicit expressions for them are found. The macroscopic degeneracy of the ground states is investigated and discussed.

Magnetic Plateaus and Jumps in a Spin‐1/2 Ladder with Alternate Ising–Heisenberg Rungs: A Field‐Dependent Study

Sk Saniur Rahaman, Manoranjan Kumar, Shaon Sahoo

A frustrated two‐legged spin‐1/2 ladder featuring alternating Ising and isotropic Heisenberg exchange interactions on the rungs is investigated, while Ising exchanges are present along the legs and diagonals. This model exhibits the following four ground‐state phases: (i) stripe rung ferromagnet (SRFM), (ii) anisotropic antiferromagnet, (iii) dimer, and (iv) stripe leg ferromagnet. In this work, different magnetization plateaus are analyzed by studying the spin density, quantum fidelity, and quantum concurrence in the presence of longitudinal and transverse magnetic fields. The exact diagonalization and transfer matrix methods are used to solve the model Hamiltonian. In the presence of a longitudinal field, the discrete magnetization plateaus appear at 0, 1/2, and 1 of the saturation value across all phases [(i)–(iv)]. Interestingly, in the presence of an externally applied transverse field, the SRFM phase [(i)] exhibits a continuous change in magnetization. The other three phases [(ii)–(iv)] show both discrete jump and continuous change in magnetization in different limits of the transverse field.

Multiple magnetization plateaus induced by further neighbor interaction in an $S = 1$ two-leg Heisenberg spin ladder

Hidehiko Kohshiro, Ryui Kaneko, Satoshi Morita +2 more

We study the magnetization process of the $S=1$ Heisenberg model on a two-leg ladder with further neighbor spin-exchange interaction. We consider the interaction that couples up to the next-nearest neighbor rungs and find an exactly solvable regime where the ground states become product states. The next-nearest neighbor interaction tends to stabilize magnetization plateaus at multiples of 1/6. In most of the exactly solvable regime, a single magnetization curve shows two series of plateaus with different periodicities.

Magnetic properties and quantum entanglement on decorated zigzag ladder

L. Ananikyan, H. A. Lazaryan

Magnetic properties and quantum entanglement of Heisenberg model with two-, three- and four-site exchange interactions on zigzag ladder are studied. Magnetic properties and concurrence (measure of quantum entanglement) are analyzed by means of variational mean-field-like treatment based on the Gibbs-Bogoliubov inequality. The magnetization plateau and second-order phase transition are obtained. A comparison of the entanglement and magnetic characteristics for the zigzag ladder is made. Our calculations show that in the antiferromagnetic region the behavior of the concurrence coincides with that of the magnetization.

Magnetization properties of some quantum spin ladders

Kunj Tandon, Siddhartha Lal, Swapan Kumar Pati +2 more

The experimental realization of various spin ladder systems has prompted their detailed theoretical investigations. Here we study the evolution of ground-state magnetization with an external magnetic field for two different antiferromagnetic systems: a three-legged spin-$1/2$ ladder, and a two-legged spin-$1/2$ ladder with an additional diagonal interaction. The finite system density-matrix renormalization-group method is employed for numerical studies of the three-chain system, and an effective low-energy Hamiltonian is used in the limit of strong interchain coupling to study the two- and three-chain systems. The three-chain system has a magnetization plateau at one-third of the saturation magnetization. The two-chain system has a plateau at zero magnetization due to a gap above the singlet ground state. It also has a plateau at half of the saturation magnetization for a certain range of values of the couplings. We study the regions of transitions between plateaus numerically and analytically, and find that they are described, at first order in a strong-coupling expansion, by an $\mathrm{XXZ}$ spin-$1/2$ chain in a magnetic field; the second-order terms give corrections to the $\mathrm{XXZ}$ model. We also study numerically some low-temperature properties of the three-chain system, such as the magnetization, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat.
