BELL'S INEQUALITY IN CHARMONIUM DECAYS

Sergey P. Baranov

This note addresses the issue of checking Bell's inequalities in elementary particle physics. A new expression for the Bell's inequality is proposed in terms of experimentally measurable angular observables. As an example, the degree of violation of the Bell's inequality in the decays [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] is studied.

Bell inequality is violated in charmonium decays

Marco E. Fabbrichesi, Roberto Floreanini B, Emidio Gabrielli A +1 more

The experimental data on the helicity amplitudes of charmonium decays allow us to measure entanglement in final state spin correlations and test possible violations of the Bell inequality. We find that the Bell inequality is violated with a significance of 5 σ or more in the decays η c , χ c 0 , J / ψ → Λ + Λ ¯ , J / ψ → Ξ − + Ξ ¯ + , Ξ 0 + Ξ ¯ 0 , Σ − + Σ ¯ + , Σ 0 + Σ ¯ 0 , ψ ( 3686 ) → Ξ − + Ξ ¯ + , Σ − + Σ ¯ + , Σ 0 + Σ ¯

Testing Bell’s Inequality using Charmonium Decays

Shion Chen, S. Komamiya

This paper discusses the feasibility of testing Bell's inequality with the charmonium decays |$\eta _{\mathrm {c}} \rightarrow \Lambda \overline {\Lambda }$|, |$\chi _{{\mathrm {c}}0} \rightarrow \Lambda \overline {\Lambda }$| and |${\mathrm {J}}/\psi \rightarrow \Lambda \overline {\Lambda }$|. We develop a new formulation of Bell's inequality represented with particles' orientations, which can be measured straightforwardly in experiment, and seek to ascertain if it is violated in these decay processes. It is shown that the ηc channel and the |$\chi _{c0}$| channel maximally violate Bell's inequality, while the |${\mathrm {J}}/\psi $| channel gives no inconsistency with it. Simulations dealing with experimental aspects are also implemented. The expected statistical fluctuations and achievable significance are estimated as a function of sample size.

Testing Bell's inequality using charmonium decays

Testing Bell inequality at experiments of high energy physics

X. Q. Hao, 柯红卫, 丁亦兵 +2 more

Besides using the laser beam, it is very tempting to directly testify the Bell inequality at high energy experiments where the spin correlation is exactly what the original Bell inequality investigates. In this work, we follow the proposal raised in literature and use the successive decays J/ψ→γηc→Λ...

Entangled baryons: violation of inequalities based on local realism assuming dependence of decays on hidden variables

Yu Shi, Ji-Chong Yang

Abstract Bell inequalities are consequences of local realism while violated by quantum mechanics. In particle physics, entangled high energy particles can be produced from a common source, and the decay of each particle plays the role of measurement. However, in a hidden variable theory, the decay could be determined by hidden variables. This loophole killed such approaches to Bell test in particle physics. It is a special form of measurement-setting or free-will loophole, which also exists in other systems. Using entangled baryons, we present new inequalities of local realism with the explicit assumption of the dependence of the decays on hidden variables, as well as the consideration of the statistical mixture of polarizations and the separation of local hidden variables for objects with spacelike distances. These violations closes the measurement-setting loophole once and for all. We propose to use the processes $$\eta _c\rightarrow \varLambda {\bar{\varLambda }}$$ ηc→ΛΛ¯ and $$\chi _{c0} \rightarrow \varLambda {\bar{\varLambda }}$$ χc0→ΛΛ¯ to test our inequalities, and show that their violations are likely to be observed with the data already collected in BESIII.
