Abstract

An exact expression for the Hamiltonian H of the t-J model in terms of local spin (${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{i}}$) and fermionic holon (${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}$) operators is derived which requires no constraint between these operators. The result for the Hamiltonian H is H=-t t${sum}_{\mathit{i}\mathit{j}}$${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}$${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{j}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$(1/2+2${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{i}}$\ensuremath{\cdot}${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{j}}$)+(J/2)t ${\mathrm{sm}}_{\mathrm{ij}}$(1-${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}$)(${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{i}}$\ensuremath{\cdot}${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{j}}$-1/4)(1-${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{j}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$e The number of electrons at site i is given by ${\mathit{n}}_{\mathit{i}}$=1-${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}$, and the true spin operator S${\mathrm{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}}_{\mathit{i}}$, is related to the local spin operator by S${\mathrm{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}}_{\mathit{i}}$=(1-${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$${\mathit{e}}_{\mathit{i}}$)${\mathbf{S}}_{\mathit{i}}$. The expression correctly produces the Nagaoka theorem in the limit J\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0, and preserves the time-reversal symmetry of the original model. For a bipartite lattice, H describes a competition between ferromagnetism, favored by the hopping term, and antiferromagnetism, favored by the Heisenberg term.

Exact representation of the large-UHubbard model and its application

Y.R. Wang

An exact representation of the large-U Hubbard model is developed in terms of fermionic holon, fermionic doublon, and local spin operators which requires no constraint between the charge and spin operators. The Hamiltonian in the new representation explicitly expresses the Nagaoka theorem, and there is an exact one to one correspondence between the new representation and the large-U Lieb-Wu wave function for the case of one dimension. Using the new representation, we further show that the signature of spin-charge separation, in any dimension, is the characteristic wave vector 2${\mathbf{k}}_{\mathit{F}}^{\mathrm{SF}}$ in the static density-density correlation function (${\mathbf{k}}_{\mathit{F}}^{\mathrm{SF}}$ encloses a Fermi volume filled by 1-x spinless fermions per site, where x is the doping concentration). In addition, we derive the corresponding representation for the t-J-J' model, where the J' term describes the indirect hopping of the electrons, and the holon (doublon) propagator which explicitly shows the dependence of charge propagation on the spin state.

Representation of thet-Jmodel using decoupled spin and charge variables

Jan Loos

Using the mapping of the single-occupation space of the t-J model onto the tensor-product space of local spin-1/2 and holon states, the Hubbard operators and their products corresponding to physical quantities are expressed in terms of local spin and holon operators. All relevant operator relations of the t-J model are reproduced by this representation and no projection procedure is needed to remove the redundant degrees of freedom originating from the spin and charge decoupling. It is shown that the time-reversal symmetry requirement makes the essential restriction on the choice of the fictitious spin state associated with the electron-vacancy state in the mapping. The results are critically compared with the treatment of this topic in the paper of Wang and Rice [Phys. Rev. B 49, 4360 (1994)]. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Magnetic and superconducting competition within the Hubbard dimer. Exact solution

M. Matlak, T. Słomska, B. Grabiec

Abstract We express the Hubbard dimer Hamiltonian $ H_{d} = {\textstyle \sum \nolimits ^{16} _{\alpha = 1} }E_{\alpha}\vert E_{\alpha}\rangle \langle E_{\alpha}\vert $ in the second quantization with theuse of the Hubbard and spin operators. We consider the case of positive and negative U. We decompose the resulting Hamiltonian into several parts collecting all the terms belonging to the same energy level. Such a decomposition visualizes explicitely all intrinsic interactions competing together and deeply hidden in the original form of the dimer Hamiltonian. Among them are competitive ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic interactions. There are also hopping terms present which describe Cooper pairs hopping between sites 1 and 2 with positive and negative coupling constants (similar as in Kulik–Pedan, Penson–Kolb models). We show that the competition between intrinsic interactions strongly depends on the model parametrs and the averaged occupation number of electrons n ∈ [0, 4] resulting in different regimes of the model (as e.g. t–J model regime, etc.).
