Abstract

Monte Carlo simulations are performed on the square lattice Ising system with both the nearest neighbor and the two-dimensional dipolar interactions in order to investigate the critical property of ferromagnetic phase transitions in this 2-dimensional system. Applying the finite size scaling theory to Monte Carlo data just near the transition point, the critical indices of this dipolar system are calculated and α=0.31±0.04, β =0.20±0.02, γ=1.08±0.20 and ν=0.72±0.10 are obtained. However, in the temperature region considerably far from the transition point, different values of α, β and γ seem to be adequate, which are rather close to those of the rigorous result of the 2-dimensional Ising model.

Ising Antiferromagnet with Nearest-Neighbor and Next-Nearest-Neighbor Interactions on a Square Lattice

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Рамазанов Магомедшейх Курбанович, М. К. Бадиев

The critical properties of two-dimensional antiferromagnetic Ising model in square lattice are investigated using the replica Monte-Carlo method with account of interactions of second nearest neighbors. The diagram of critical temperature dependence on an interaction value of second nearest neighbors is plotted. Static critical exponents of the heat capacity α, susceptibility γ, magnetization β, and correlation radius ν are calculated for this model using the finite-size scaling theory.

Critical Behavior Simulation of the Two-Dimensional Ising Model—A Computational Physics Study Based on the Monte Carlo Method

佳钢 李

To demonstrate the application of computational physics in modern statistical physics, this paper investigates the critical behavior of a finite-size ferromagnetic system based on the two-dimensional square-lattice Ising model.A nearest-neighbor Ising Hamiltonian is constructed, and periodic boundary conditions are adopted to reduce finite-boundary effects. The Metropolis Monte Carlo algorithm is used to sample spin configurations at different temperatures, while energy, magnetization, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and Binder cumulant are calculated to describe the transition from an ordered state to a disordered state. The simulation results show that the system exhibits clear long-range order at low temperatures, where the order parameter remains high.As temperature increases, thermal fluctuations become stronger, magnetization decreases rapidly, and the system gradually evolves into a disordered state. The specific heat curve shows a pronounced peak at approximately (T = 2.269), while the susceptibility peak shifts slightly toward the high-temperature side due to finite-size effects and the discrete temperature grid.Overall, the simulated critical region is consistent with the theoretical critical temperature of the two-dimensional square-lattice Ising model.Spin-configuration analysis further reveals enhanced fluctuations and domain reconstruction near the critical region. In addition, a thermalization criterion and an extended sampling test for L = 48 near the critical region are added to examine the influence of finite sampling and equilibration. These results indicate that Monte Carlo simulation of the two-dimensional Ising model can effectively reproduce continuous phase transition, critical fluctuation and finite-size effects, providing a basic computational case for understanding critical phenomena in complex systems and data-driven physical analysis.

Critical behaviour of the ferromagnetic Ising model on a triangular lattice

Luo Zhi-Huan, Loan Mushtaq, Liu Yan +1 more

We use a new updated algorithm scheme to investigate the critical behaviour of the two-dimensional ferromagnetic Ising model on a triangular lattice with the nearest neighbour interactions. The transition is examined by generating accurate data for lattices with L = 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50. The updated spin algorithm we employ has the advantages of both a Metropolis algorithm and a single-update method. Our study indicates that the transition is continuous at T c = 3.6403(2). A convincing finite-size scaling analysis of the model yields ν = 0.9995(21), β/ν = 0.12400(17), γ/ν = 1.75223(22), γ'/ν = 1.7555(22), α/ν = 0.00077(420) (scaling) and α/ν = 0.0010(42) (hyperscaling). The present scheme yields more accurate estimates for all the critical exponents than the Monte Carlo method, and our estimates are shown to be in excellent agreement with their predicted values.

Critical properties of a two-dimensional Ising magnet with quasiperiodic interactions

Gladstone Alencar Alves, M.S. Vasconcelos, T. F. A. Alves

We address the study of quasiperiodic interactions on a square lattice by using an Ising model with ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions following a quasiperiodic Fibonacci sequence in both directions of a square lattice. We applied the Monte Carlo method, together with the Metropolis algorithm, to calculate the thermodynamic quantities of the system. We obtained the Edwards-Anderson order parameter q_{EA}, the magnetic susceptibility χ, and the specific heat c in order to characterize the universality class of the phase transition. We also use the finite size scaling method to obtain the critical temperature of the system and the critical exponents β,γ, and ν. In the low-temperature limit we obtained a spin-glass phase with critical temperature around T_{c}≈2.274, and the critical exponents β,γ, and ν, indicating that the quasiperiodic order induces a change in the universality class of the system. Also, we discovered a spin-glass ordering in a two-dimensional system which is rare and, as far as we know, the unique example is an under-frustrated Ising model.

Two-Dimensional Ising Ferromagnet with Second-Neighbor Interaction. II. Monte Carlo Method

Sei-ichi Takase

The static properties are investigated by computer simulation for the square Ising ferromagnet in which the nearest-neighbor interactions are ferromagnetic and the second interactions antiferromagnetic. Energy and magnetization at various temperatures are obtained by Monte Carlo calculations performed on the lattice with 20×20 spins. The Curie point determined as the inflection point of the energy-vs-temperature curve agrees with the result by Fan and Wu rather than other analytical approximations. The behavior of the spontaneous magnetization M 0 ( T ) for T → T c -0 as characterized by the critical exponent β is shown by comparing the data with an analytical equation for the magnetization. The exponent β remains probably unchanged from the original value 1/8.

Critical Properties of a Spin-3/2 Ising Model on a Square Lattice

Norihiro Tsushima, Yasushi Honda, Tsuyoshi Horiguchi

We investigate a spin-3/2 Ising model on a square lattice by using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and a density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. We obtain phase diagrams of the ground state. We carried out the MC simulations in order to calculate the critical temperature and the critical exponent η. We estimate the critical exponents ν, α and γ by using a finite size scaling analysis. We also calculate the critical temperature, the central charge c and the critical exponent ν by using the DMRG method. From the results obtained by the MC simulations and by the DMRG method, we discuss a universality class of the system. It is found that the values of critical exponents are determined by means of the degeneracy of the ground state. This result suggests that the universality does not hold for the spin-3/2 Ising model. Furthermore we find a possibility of a breakdown of the hyperscaling law. We also confirm that the ferrimagnetic phase exists in a parameter region where the ground state has a fourfold degeneracy, and that a transition between the ferrimagnetic phase and the ferromagnetic phase exists in addition to that between the ferromagnetic phase and the paramagnetic phase.
