Abstract

We examine an effective bosonic Hamiltonian describing a mesoscopic Josephson junction driven by a sinusoidal magnetic field. We study the effects caused by the Josephson nonlinearity and find that an initial vacuum state of the junction can evolve into a class of superposition state of coherent states. Further, we investigate the reduced quantum fluctuation of the junction variables and the dynamics of the supercurrent. Our results show that, due to the effect of Josephson nonlinearity, the time evolution of the supercurrent can exhibit the collapse and revival even when the junction is driven by a classical field.

DYNAMIC BEHAVIOR OF SUPERCURRENT IN MESOSCOPIC JOSEPHSON JUNCTION INTERACTING WITH CORRELATED TWO MODE SU(1,1) COHERENT STATES OF QUANTUM ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD

ZOU JIAN, SHAO BIN, Xing Xiu-San +1 more

The dynamic behaviors of supercurrent in mesoscopic Josephson junction in the presence of a dc bias voltage V0-and of correlated two-mode SU(1,1) coherent states of quantum electromagnetic field, as well as current-voltage steps and Shapiro dc current, are investigated. It is shown that the time evolution of supercurrent exhibits collapse and revival phenomenon, but for non-correlated two-mode coherent states it does not exhibit such a phenomenon. And the current-voltage steps of correlated two-mode SU(1,1) coherent states of quantum electromagnetic field are different from that of classical electromagnetic field and that of non correlated two-mode coherent states.

Shao Bin, Zou Jian, Xing Xiu-San

Dynamic behavior of the supercurrent in a mesoscopic Josephson junction in the presence of a nonclassical electromagnetic field is investigated. It is shown that for the squeezed state the time evolution of the supercurrent can exhibit quantum collapse and revival phenomenon, while for the coherent state the phenomenon does not occur.

Dynamic behavior of the supercurrent in mesoscopic Josephson junctions in the presence of a nonclassical electromagnetic field

Zou Jian, Shao Bin, Xing Xiu-San

The dynamic behavior of the supercurrent in mesoscopic Josephson junctions interacting with various nonclassical electromagnetic fields (NEMF) is investigated. It is shown that for squeezed number states, squeezed states, and a superposition of two coherent states, the supercurrent exhibits a collapse and revival (CR) phenomenon that is well known in the context of quantum optics. For coherent states and number states, this phenomenon does not occur. This CR phenomenon, which is due to the granular nature of the field, is also absent if the field is considered classically. The dynamic behavior of the supercurrent fluctuation is also studied and it is found that, generally, when the fluctuation is large, the supercurrent exhibits collapses, and, when the fluctuation is small, the supercurrent exhibits revivals. Finally, the amplitude of current-voltage steps for various NEMF's are studied in some detail.

Quantum Fluctuation Properties in Mesoscopic Josephson Junction

Zou Jian

An effective bosonic Hamiltonian describing the interaction of a mesoscopic Josephson junction with a quantized radiation field is studied. It is shown that when the field is initially in a coherent state and the junction initially in its lowest energy level state, the state of the coupled field-mesoscopic Josephson junction system can evolve to a squeezed state. A detailed analysis about the quantum fluctuation of the coupled system is given.

Fractional Shapiro Steps and Superstructure in Revivals of Supercurrent in Mesoscopic Josephson Junction

Jian Zou, Bin Shao, Xiusan Xing

Dynamic behavior of supercurrent in mesoscopic Josephson junction interacting with even coherent state (CS) and odd CS of nonclassical microwave with frequency ω1 and classical radiation with frequency ω2 is investigated. It is shown that the supercurrent through the junction has a dc component only for all rational values of ω1/ω2 (fractional Shapiro steps). It is also shown that the dynamic behavior of the supercurrent exhibits collapse and revival phenomenon and the revivals are dominated by the periodical superstructure. Dynamic behavior of supercurrent fluctuation is also studied and it is found that generally when the fluctuation is large, the supercurrent exhibits collapses and when the fluctuation is small, the supercurrent exhibits revivals.

Mesoscopic Josephson junctions in the presence of non-classical multimode electromagnetic field

Supercurrent behavior of the mesoscopic Josephson junction coupled to the multimode electromagnetic field is investigated. The basic theoretic sketch of the fully quantum mechanical system for the multimode squeezed state is build. It is shown that the time evolution of the supercurrent in the multimode field can exhibit more complex behavior than in a single-mode field case. The quantum collapse and revival properties of the supercurrent for a three-mode squeezed vacuum state are shown.
