Two-photon electron transfer between quantum dots

Abstract

The effective Hamiltonian of a system describing electrons of two quantum dots in a two-frequency electromagnetic field upon Raman resonance of the field with a pair of the electronic levels of different dots is obtained by the method of equivalent transformation. The states of the continuous spectrum (conduction bands) are correctly taken into account. The role of the terms describing the dynamic Stark effect in a two-body system is analysed. A new mechanism of particle transfer between quantum wells in a non-resonance electromagnetic field is proposed, which is free from disadvantages of previous models.

The Optical Stark effect of the exciton due to dynamical coupling between quantized states of the electron and hole in quantum wells

Nguyễn Hồng Quang

Optical Stark effect of the exciton in quantum wells is treated by taking into account not only dynamical coupling by pump field between quantized states of the electron in the conduction band but also the coupling between quantized states of the hole in the valence band. The changes in the calculated one-photon absorption probability by exciton depend essentially on pump field detuning.

Coherent single-electron transfer in coupled quantum dots

Antonios Fountoulakis, Andreas Terzis, Emmanuel Paspalakis

We theoretically investigate the coherent transfer of one electron between the ground states of a double coupled quantum dot structure. The coherent transfer of the electron is externally controlled by applied electromagnetic fields with on- or close-resonance driving frequencies and various shapes and duration. We derive the analytical expressions for the parameters of the external fields by approximating the quantum dot system as a three-level Λ-type system. The analytical solutions are compared with numerical results and good agreement is found. The control methods developed here are applicable in symmetric and asymmetric quantum dot nanostructures.

A theoretical study of the optical Stark effect in InGaAs/InAlAs quantum dots

Đinh Như Thảo, Lê Thị Ngọc Bảo, Dương Đình Phước +1 more

Abstract In this paper, we examine the three-level optical Stark effect of excitons in InGaAs/InAlAs quantum dots using renormalized wavefunction formulation. The system was assumed to be irradiated by two lasers in which a strong laser dynamically couples electron-quantized levels, while a weaker laser probes interband absorption. Our results show that, in the presence of the resonant strong laser, two new absorption peaks of excitons appear in the absorption spectrum as a clear indication of the effect. In addition, we propose that the formation of the effect in low-dimensional structures could have connection to the splitting of electron levels. Furthermore, we seek to explain the essential dependence of the amplitude and position of two peaks on pump field detuning.

Selective electron transfer between quantum dots induced by a resonance pulse

L. А. Openov, A. V. Tsukanov

A theoretical study of the effect of a resonance electromagnetic pulse on the coherent electron dynamics in a system of tunneling-coupled quantum dots (QDs) arranged in a closed-ring configuration is carried out. It is shown that selective electron transfer between two arbitrary QDs is possible. The transfer probability is calculated as a function of the parameters that characterize the QDs and the electromagnetic pulse. It is shown that this probability can be close to unity. Factors leading to a reduction of the transfer probability in a realistic system are considered. The results obtained can be used for the development of new types of nanoelectronic devices for performing operations with quantum bits.

Controlled exciton transfer between quantum dots with acoustic phonons taken into account

Pavel A. Golovinski

A system of excitons in two quantum dots coupled by the dipole–dipole interaction is investigated. The excitation transfer process controlled by the optical Stark effect at nonresonant frequencies is considered and the effect of the interaction between excitons and acoustic phonons in a medium on this process is taken into account. The system evolution is described using quantum Heisenberg equations. A truncated set of equations is obtained and the transfer dynamics is numerically simulated. High-efficiency picosecond switching of the excitation transfer by a laser pulse with a rectangular envelope is demonstrated. The dependence of picosecond switching on the quantum-dot parameters and optical-pulse length is presented.
