Abstract

We discuss an algebraic way to construct generic entangled states of qunits based on the polar decomposition of the su (2) algebra. In particular, we show that these states can be defined as eigenstates of certain Hermitian operators.

Complementarity and phases inSU(3)

Hubert de Guise, Apostol Vourdas, Luis Lorenzo Sánchez-Soto

Phase operators and phase states are introduced for irreducible representations of the Lie algebra su(3) using a polar decomposition of ladder operators. In contradistinction with su(2), it is found that the su(3) polar decomposition does not uniquely determine a Hermitian phase operator. We describe two possible ways of proceeding: one based in imposing SU(2) invariance and the other based on the idea of complementarity. The generalization of these results to SU(n) is sketched.

PHASE STATES AND COHERENT STATES FOR GENERALIZED WEYL-HEISENBERG ALGEBRAS

M. Kibler, Mohammed Daoud A

This paper is concerned with the construction of phase operators, phase states, vector phase states, and coherent states for a generalized Weyl-Heisenberg algebra. This polynomial algebra (that depends on real parameters) is briefly described. The various states are defined on a finite- or infinite-dimensional space depending on the parameters. This report constitutes an introduction to three papers published by the authors in J. Phys. A [43 (2010) 115303 and 45 (2012) 244036] and J. Math. Phys. [52 (2011) 082101]. Phase operators and phase states associated with the su(n + 1) Lie algebra

S. Hajji, Bouchra Maroufi, Mostafa Mansour +1 more

The main aim of this work is to build unitary phase operators and the corresponding temporally stable phase states for the [Formula: see text] Lie algebra. We first introduce an irreducible finite-dimensional Hilbertian representation of the [Formula: see text] Lie algebra which is suitable for our purpose. The phase operators obtained from the [Formula: see text] generators are defined and the phase states are derived as eigenstates associated to these unitary phase operators. The special cases of [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] Lie algebras are also explicitly investigated.

PROJECTED ENTANGLED STATES: PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS

Frank Verstraete, M. M. Wolf, David Pérez-Garcı́a +1 more

We present a new characterization of quantum states, what we call Projected Entangled-Pair States (PEPS). This characterization is based on constructing pairs of maximally entangled states in a Hilbert space of dimension D-2, and then projecting those states in subspaces of dimension d. In one dimension, one recovers the familiar matrix product states, whereas in higher dimensions this procedure gives rise to other interesting states. We have used this new parametrization to construct numerical algorithms to simulate the ground state proper-ties and dynamics of certain quantum-many body systems in two dimensions.

Description of entanglement in terms of quantum phase

Luis Lorenzo Sánchez-Soto, Julián Delgado, A. B. Klimov +1 more

We explore the role played by the phase in an accurate description of the entanglement of bipartite systems. We first present an appropriate polar decomposition that leads to a truly Hermitian operator for the phase of a single qubit. We also examine the positive operator-valued measures that can describe the qubit phase properties. When dealing with two qubits, the relative phase seems to be a natural variable to understand entanglement. In this spirit, we propose a measure of entanglement based on this variable.
