The low-density limit in terms of collective squeezed vectors

Abstract

The low-density limit for a quantum system interacting with a free Bose or Fermi gas is considered. For the particular choice of reference vectors (collective squeezed vectors) one proves the convergence of the associated matrix elements of the evolution operator to the matrix elements of the unitary quantum stochastic process driven by the quantum Poisson noise.

The weak coupling limit for Fermions

Luigi Accardi, A. Frigerio, Yun Gang Lu

It will be shown that, in the weak coupling limit, the matrix elements in the collective number vectors of the evolution in the interacting picture of a quantum system coupled to a quasifree Fermion bath with a laser type interaction, converge to the matrix elements in some number vectors, of a unitary quantum stochastic process satisfying a quantum stochastic differential equation driven by a Fermion Brownian motion with covariance uniquely determined by the initial Fermion bath.

White noise approach to the low density limit of a quantum particle in a gas

Alexander Nikolaevich Pechen

The white noise approach to the investigation of the dynamics of a quantum particle interacting with a dilute and in general non-equilibrium gaseous environment in the low density limit is outlined. The low density limit is the kinetic Markovian regime when only pair collisions (i.e., collisions of the test particle with one particle of the gas at one time moment) contribute to the dynamics. In the white noise approach one first proves that the appropriate operators describing the gas converge in the sense of appropriate matrix elements to certain operators of quantum white noise. Then these white noise operators are used to derive quantum white noise and quantum stochastic equations describing the approximate dynamics of the total system consisting of the particle and the gas. The derivation is given ab initio, starting from the exact microscopic quantum dynamics. The limiting dynamics is described by a quantum stochastic equation driven by a quantum Poisson process. This equation then applied to the derivation of quantum Langevin equation and linear Boltzmann equation for the reduced density matrix of the test particle. The first part of the paper describes the approach which was developed by L. Accardi, I.V. Volovich and the author and uses the Fock-antiFock (or GNS) representation for the CCR algebra of the gas. The second part presents the approach to the derivation of the limiting equations directly in terms of the correlation functions, without use of the Fock-antiFock representation. This approach simplifies the derivation and allows to express the strength of the quantum number process directly in terms of the one-particle $S$-matrix.

The Quantum Weak Coupling Limit (II): Langevin Equation and Finite Temperature Case

Luigi Accardi, Alberto Frigerio, Yun Gang Lu

We complete the program started in [4] by proving that, in the weak coupling limit, the matrix elements, in the collective coherent vectors, of the Heisenberg evolved of an observable of a system coupled to a quasi-free reservoir through a laser type interaction, converge to the matrix elements of a quantum stochastic process satisfying a quantum Langevin equation driven by a quantum Brownian motion. Our results apply to an arbitrary quasi-free reservoir so, in particular, the finite temperature case is included.

The weak coupling limit for quadratic interaction

Yun Gang Lu

The weak coupling limit of a ‘‘system+reservoir’’ model with nonlinear (quadratic) interaction is discussed. In a previous paper [Accardi and Lu, Stoch. Process. Phys. Geom., 1–26], it has been shown that, if the matrix elements of the van Hove rescaled evolution are taken with respect to the same collective vectors used for linear interactions, then the limiting evolution is not unitary. In the present paper, we choose a new type of collective vectors and obtain, in the weak coupling limit, a unitary evolution satisfying a quantum stochastic differential equation. A remarkable feature of the limiting process is that the quadratic nature of the interaction shows up in a nontrivial choice of the Hilbert space where the limiting quantum noise takes its values, which is qualitatively new with respect to all the models considered up to now.

Repeated quantum interactions Quantum Langevin equation and the low density limit

Ameur Dhahri

We consider a repeated quantum interaction model describing a small system $\Hh_S$ in interaction with each one of the identical copies of the chain $\bigotimes_{\N^*}\C^{n+1}$, modeling a heat bath, one after another during the same short time intervals $[0,h]$. We suppose that the repeated quantum interaction Hamiltonian is split in two parts: a free part and an interaction part with time scale of order $h$. After giving the GNS representation, we establish the relation between the time scale $h$ and the classical low density limit. We introduce a chemical potential $μ$ related to the time $h$ as follows: $h^2=e^{βμ}$. We further prove that the solution of the associated discrete evolution equation converges strongly, when $h$ tends to 0, to the unitary solution of a quantum Langevin equation directed by Poisson processes.

Quantum stochastic equation for a test particle interacting with a dilute Bose gas

Alexander Nikolaevich Pechen

We use the stochastic limit method to study long time quantum dynamics of a test particle interacting with a dilute Bose gas. The case of arbitrary form factors and an arbitrary, not necessarily equilibrium, quasifree low density state of the Bose gas is considered. Starting from microscopic dynamics we derive in the low density limit a quantum white noise equation for the evolution operator. This equation is equivalent to a quantum stochastic equation driven by a quantum Poisson process with intensity S−1, where S is a one-particle S matrix. The novelty of our approach is that the equations are derived directly in terms of correlators, without use of a Fock–anti-Fock (or Gel’fand–Naimark–Segal) representation. Advantages of our approach are the simplicity of derivation of the limiting equation and that the algebra of the master fields and the Ito table do not depend on the initial state of the Bose gas. The notion of a causal state is introduced. We construct master fields (white noise and number operators) describing the dynamics in the low density limit and prove the convergence of chronological (causal) correlators of the field operators to correlators of the master fields in the causal state.
