Symmetric and asymmetric quantum channels in quantum communication systems

Abstract

Symmetric and asymmetric quantum channels which act on bipartite bosonic states are considered. The linear dissipative channel and the quantum teleportation channel are applied. The influences of the symmetric and asymmetric quantum channels on bipartite Gaussian states are investigated by means of the inseparability condition. Furthermore, quantum teleportation and quantum dense coding of continuous variables performed by means of two-mode squeezed-vacuum states under the influence of the noisy quantum channels are discussed.

Asymmetry and decoherence of a quantum channel in the quantum communication system of continuous variables

Masashi Ban

Influences of an asymmetric noisy quantum channel on continuous variable entanglement and quantum teleportation are investigated. It is shown that when the resource of entanglement is a two-mode squeezed-vacuum state, the amount of the shared entanglement and the performance of the quantum teleportation are greater (smaller) in the symmetric quantum channel than in the asymmetric one if , where and are the average photon numbers of the two-mode squeezed-vacuum state and the thermal noise. When the quantum teleportation is carried out in the asymmetric quantum channel, introducing an additional loss makes better the performance of the quantum teleportation under certain conditions. The introduction of an additional loss makes smaller not only the shared entanglement but also the degree of the channel asymmetry.

Quantum dense coding of continuous variables in a noisy quantum channel

Masashi Ban

Quantum dense coding of continuous variables via a two-mode squeezed vacuum state is considered for a noisy quantum channel. Classical information is encoded in the two quadrature components of one mode of a two-mode squeezed vacuum state and the encoded mode is sent through a noisy quantum channel which is assumed to be linearly dissipative. Decoding at the receiver side is performed by simultaneous measurement of two quadrature components of the two-mode state. By calculating the error probability of a binary communication system, we examine whether the dense coding is effective or not when a quantum channel is noisy.

Continuous variable teleportation as a generalized thermalizing quantum channel

Masashi Ban, Masahide Sasaki, Masahiro Takeoka

A quantum channel is derived for continuous variable teleportation which is performed by means of an arbitrary entangled state and the standard protocol. When a Gaussian entangled state such as a two-mode squeezed-vacuum state is used, the continuous variable teleportation is equivalent to the thermalizing quantum channel. Continuous variable quantum dense coding is also considered.

Properties of continuous variable quantum teleportation

Masashi Ban

Properties of quantum states transmitted by means of continuous variable quantum teleportation are investigated. The necessary condition is obtained such that continuous variable quantum teleportation can transmit nonclassical properties of input states from a sender to a receiver. Furthermore, when a sender and receiver share a two-mode squeezed-vacuum state through a noisy quantum channel and a sender transmits Gaussian quantum states, the fidelity between the input state and the teleported state is calculated to evaluate the performance of the continuous variable quantum teleportation.

Teleportation of a two-mode Gaussian state through double two-mode-squeezed-state quantum channels

Qian Zhang, Li Fu-Li, Hongrong Li +1 more

Teleportation of a general two-mode Gaussian state through double two-mode squeezed state quantum channels is studied. It is found that the quantum channels must be enough entangled for the output state to be inseparable. The required minimum entanglement for the quantum channels to maintain entanglement in the output state depends on the entanglement of the input state when the input state is pure. The minimum entanglement depends not only the on entanglement but also on the global purity of the input state when the input state is mixed.

Optimal signal detection in entanglement-assisted quantum communication systems

Masashi Ban

Minimization of error probability is considered in entanglement-assisted quantum communication systems. It is shown that although quantum state signals being sent are not symmetric at a sender side, the square root measurement becomes optimum when they are made symmetric at the receiver side. For communication systems of coherent signals, where a two-mode squeezed-vacuum state is used as an entanglement resource, the quantum entanglement greatly reduces the average probability of error. The relation to the quantum dense coding of continuous variables is also discussed.
