Microscopic approach to enforced SU(6) symmetry in random phase approximation

Abstract

Explicit construction of Dyson, Holstein-Primakoff, and Schwinger representations for random-phase approximation phonon operators is given within Lie algebraic framework. It is shown that these representations emerge as exact boson realizations of quadrupole collective algebra, but the enforcement of SU(6) symmetry involves important constraints embodied in definite nonlinear conditions imposed on random-phase approximation phonon amplitudes. The constructed Schwinger representation could be employed to provide alternative approach to the interacting boson model parameters, avoiding standard procedures of mapping the shell-model SD subspace into the sd boson space.

SU (6) bozonska proširena aproksimacija slučajnih faza: novi pristup mikroskopskom ostvarenju interakcijsko bozonskog modela

Kyrchev, Georgi, Paar, Vladimir

Lie algebraic approach to the microscopic foundation of Interacting Boson Model – 1 is developed, treating on equal footing the SU (6) governed dynamics and the accompanying SU (6) constraints. In this approach the collective RPA phonon operators are used as „preferred pairs“ with subsequent enforcement of the relevant SU (6) algebra. The „decoupled“ phonon subspace is identified as carrier space of the totally symmetric irreducible representation of SU (6) group. From the microscopic Hamiltonian the fragment with the ensuing IBM-1 boson form is extracted.

Nonlinear generalization of the quasiparticle random phase approximation for description of anharmonic effects in vibrational nuclei: Method

Ching‐Teh Li, Pabitra Chattopadhyay, Abraham Klein +1 more

A nonlinear generalization of the quasiparticle random phase approximation is constructed with the aim of describing anharmonic effects in the low-lying spectra of vibrational nuclei. Angular momentum zero pairing correlations of the ground state are described by a generalized BCS calculation based on a variational method. The dynamics of the vibrational states are described by the Heisenberg equations of motion for fermion pair operators; matrix elements of products of pair operators are treated by sum rule methods. Kinematical constraints are expressed by the algebra of the pair operators and by boson-like polynomial expansions for the quasiparticle conserving multipole operators in terms of the quasiparticle pair changing operators, these expansions enforcing the content of the Pauli principle. The physical basis for the choice of approximations is described. The final algorithm is organized so as to involve little more than repeated BCS-like and RPA-like calculations, converging to a self-consistent solution of the full nonlinear scheme. Detailed discussion is carried out for a modified form of the pairing plus quadrupole interaction Hamiltonian, but the method is not confined to this model.NUCLEAR STRUCTURE Approximate many-body methods applied to modified pairing plus quadrupole model. Two-Level Lipkin Model in Unconventional Boson Realization

Y. Tsue, Constança Providência, João da Providência +1 more

With the aim of applying to the Lipkin model in the case of open shell system, a possible form of the boson realization for the su(2)-algebra is proposed both in the Schwinger and the Holstein-Primakoff representation. The basic idea is borrowed from the Schwinger boson realization for the su(4)-algebra for many-quark system recently presented by the present authors. As the simplest approximation, a certain approximate form is given and the result is a natural generalization of the RPA result in the case of closed shell system.

Derivation of Random Phase Approximation on the Basis of the Generalized Schwinger Representation of the Fermion-Pairs

Y. Mizobuchi, Seiya Nishiyama, M. Yamamura

A derivation of the random phase approximation is given, which is based on the generalized Schwinger representation of the fermion-pairs. The method is made of two stages : First, the truncation of the boson space is done, and secondly comes the separation of boson operators into static and fluctuating parts. The pairing vibration in the super phase and the so-called quadrupole oscillation are treated by the method, which leads to the same results as those of RPA. Then the relations of these bosons to ones appearing in RPA are clarified.

Approximate treatment of the Holstein-Primakoff-type boson mapping

С.П. Иванова, R. V. Jolos, R. Pedrosa

The generalised Holstein-Primakoff boson representation of the bifermion operators is used to construct a boson image of the microscopic nuclear Hamiltonian. The microscopic analogue of the interacting boson model (IBM) Hamiltonian is obtained. It is shown how the square-root factor in the IBM Hamiltonian can be generalised so as to take into account its dependence on the angular momentum and seniority of the collective state. The method is applicable to systems where the assumption that the projection operator P is approximately equal to unity can be used. The method is proposed to include, apart from the collective quadrupole, other collective and non-collective degrees of freedom in the Hamiltonian.

Variational approach to collective excitations

Michelangelo Sambataro, Nguyen Dinh Dang

We discuss a variational approach to collective excitations in a boson formalism based on quasiparticles. Bosons are defined in correspondence with pairs of quasiparticles and boson images of fermion operators are constructed by means of a mapping procedure of Marumori-type. Phonons of the type used within the random phase approximation (RPA) are introduced as Bogoliubov transformations of these bosons. The variables entering into the definition of these phonons as well as of the quasiparticle operators are fixed simultaneously by minimizing the expectation value of the boson Hamiltonian in the vacuum of the phonons. The approach is tested within an exactly solvable two-level model which is characterized by a pairing Hamiltonian. A quite good agreement is found for the energies of the ground state and of the first ${0}^{+}$ excited state. The comparison with the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer method and the quasiparticle RPA as well as with some recent self-consistent RPA-type approaches is discussed.
