The present series of papers deals with various realizations of the dynamical group 𝒮𝓅c(2d,R) of microscopic collective states for an A nucleon system in d dimensions, defined as those A particle states invariant under the orthogonal group O(n) associated with the n=A−1 Jacobi vectors. In the present paper, we derive two boson representations of 𝒮𝓅c(2d,R), namely the Dyson representation and the Holstein–Primakoff (HP) one. Our starting point is a representation of microscopic collective states, as introduced in the first paper of the present series, in a Barut Hilbert space ℱc of analytic functions in ν =(1/2)d(d+1) complex variables. Basis functions in ℱc, classified according to the chain 𝒮𝓅c(2d,R)⊇𝒰c(d), can be put into one-to-one correspondence with basis functions, classified according to the chain 𝔘(ν)⊇𝔘(d), in a Bargmann Hilbert space ℬ of analytic functions in ν complex variables representing ν-dimensional boson states. By equating the complex variables of ℱc and their conjugate momenta with those of ℬ, we get the non-Hermitian Dyson representation of 𝒮𝓅c(d,R). We then go from the latter to the Hermitian HP representation by means of a canonical transformation that restores the Hermiticity properties of the variables and conjugate momenta. The inverse of the HP representation gives the unitary representation in quantum mechanics of the classical canonical transformation relating the oscillator Hamiltonians of the microscopic collective model and the boson macroscopic one. From the ν boson creation and annihilation operators, it is possible to build the generators of a 𝔘(ν) group, which in the physical three-dimensional case reduces to 𝔘(6). The latter is finally compared with the U(6) group appearing in the interacting boson model.

In the present series of papers it is intended to determine the nature and study various realizations of the dynamical group of microscopic collective states for an A-nucleon system, defined as those A-particle states invariant under the orthogonal group O(n) associated with the n = A−1 Jacobi vectors. The present paper discusses the case of a hypothetical one-dimensional space. Simple invariance considerations show that the dynamical group of collective states is then the group 𝒮𝓅c(2,R), which is the restriction to the collective subspace of the group 𝒮𝓅(2,R) of linear canonical transformations in n dimensions conserving the O(n) symmetry. In addition to the well-known realization of the dynamical group in the Schrödinger representation based upon the Dzublik–Zickendraht transformation, two new realizations are proposed. The first acts in a Barut Hilbert space, which is the subspace of a Bargmann Hilbert space of analytic functions left invariant by O(n). A unitary mapping is established between the ordinary Hilbert space of collective states and the Barut Hilbert space and coherent collective states are defined in the latter. The second is carried out in terms of one boson creation and one boson annihilation operator through a generalized Holstein–Primakoff representation. The generator of a U(1) group, which is the one-dimensional analog of the U(6) group of the interacting boson model (IBM), can then be expressed in terms of the generators of 𝒮𝓅c(2,R). Finally the generalization of the preceding analysis to a d-dimensional space is outlined in the cases where d = 2 or 3. The dynamical group of collective states becomes 𝒮𝓅c(2d,R).
The present series of papers deals with various realizations of the dynamical group 𝒮𝓅c(2d,R) of microscopic collective states for an A nucleon system in d (=1,2, or 3) dimensions, when these collective states are assumed to be invariant under the orthogonal group O(n) associated with the n=A−1 relative Jacobi vectors. In this paper, we further study the Barut–Girardello representation proposed in the first two papers of the present series to show that it may be reformulated in terms of some coherent states by generalizing to 𝒮𝓅c(2d,R) a class of Sp(2,R) coherent states introduced by Barut and Girardello. For such purpose, our starting point is another coherent state representation, namely the Perelomov one, previously considered by Kramer. We also propose a third, new class of coherent states leading to Holstein–Primakoff representation in a straightforward way. We review various properties of these three classes of coherent states, such as their reproducing kernel and measure explicit forms, their generating function properties, and the representations they lead to for both the collective states and their dynamical group.
Two new closely related boson realizations of the Heisenberg–Weyl algebra are derived that are directly equivalent to the introduction of spherical coordinates for the isotropic three-dimensional harmonic oscillator. This provides another way to obtain matrix elements of all physical operators connecting angular-momentum eigenstates, which are represented here by simple products of boson operators acting on the vacuum. Two of these bosons carry the angular-momentum quantum numbers while the third is a novel ‘‘radial boson.’’ In this approach, one begins by finding the nonunitary Dyson and then the unitarized Holstein–Primakoff realizations for the spectrum-generating SU(1,1)×SO(3) algebra of the oscillator. The corresponding mappings of the Heisenberg–Weyl generators are then obtained from their tensor properties under SU(1,1)×SO(3). The Dyson map of the Heisenberg–Weyl generators is not uniquely determined in this way, but the Holstein–Primakoff map is nevertheless unique. The possibility exists for generalization to isotropic oscillators of higher dimension, which are of interest in connection with nuclear collective motion.
Unitary operator coherent states, as defined by Klauder (1963), Perelomov (1972) and Gilmore (1974), are considered for the harmonic series irreducible representations of U(p,q). Various properties of these states are reviewed, including their reproducing kernel and measure explicit forms, as well as the representation they lead to for the U(p,q) generators. Starting from a contraction of the su(p,q) Lie algebra, both Dyson and Holstein-Primakoff boson realisations of u(p,q) are obtained in terms of pq pairs of boson creation, annihilation operators and of the generators of a U(p)*U(q) intrinsic group. Such boson realisations are applied to determine the matrix elements of the U(p,q) generators between discrete bases classified according to the chain U(p,q) contains/implies U(p)*U(q). Finally, the isomorphism between so(4,2) and su(2,2) is employed to derive the corresponding properties of the SO(4,2) unitary operator coherent states for application in atomic physics.
Continuing the line of development of Paper I [J. Math. Phys. 15, 1295 (1974)], we enlarge the concept of canonical transformations in quantum mechanics in two directions: first, by allowing the definition of a canonical transformation to be made through the preservation of an so(2,1) algebra, rather than the usual Heisenberg algebra, and providing the bridge between the classical and quantum mechanical descriptions, and, second, through the complexification of the transformation group. In this paper we study specifically the transformations which can be interpreted as the radial part of n-dimensional complex linear transformations in Paper I. We show that we can build Hilbert spaces of analytic functions with a scalar product defined through integration over half the complex plane of a variable which has the meaning of a complex radius. A unitary mapping to the ordinary Hilbert space Lrn−12(0,∞) is provided with a kernel involving a Bessel function. Special cases of this are shown to be the Barut-Girardello, one-dimensional Bargmann and Hankel transforms. The transform kernels provide a series of representations of a subsemigroup of SL(2,C) and allow the construction of coherent states for the harmonic oscillator with an extra centrifugal force. We present a hyperdifferential operator realization of these transforms which yields new Baker-Campbell-Hausdorff and special function relations.
In the present series of papers, the coherent states of Sp(2d,R), corresponding to the positive discrete series irreducible representations 〈λd+n/2,..,λ1+n/2〉, encountered in physical applications, are analyzed in detail with special emphasis on those of Sp(4,R) and Sp(6,R). The present paper discusses the annihilation-operator coherent states, i.e., the eigenstates of the noncompact lowering generators corresponding to complex eigenvalues. These states generalize the coherent states introduced by Barut and Girardello for Sp(2,R), and later on extended by Deenen and Quesne to the Sp(2d,R) irreducible representations of the type 〈(λ+n/2)d〉. When λ1,...,λd are not all equal, it was shown by Deenen and Quesne that the eigenvalues do not completely specify the eigenstates of the noncompact lowering generators. In the present work, their characterization is completed by a set of continuous labels parametrizing the (unitary-operator) coherent states of the maximal compact subgroup U(d). The resulting coherent states are therefore of mixed type, being annihilation-operator coherent states only as regards the noncompact generators. A realization in a subspace of a Bargmann space of analytic functions shows that such coherent states satisfy a unity resolution relation in the representation space of 〈λd +n/2,...,λ1+n/2〉, and therefore may be used as a continuous basis in such space. The analytic functions and the differential operators representing the representation space discrete bases and the Sp(2d,R) generators, respectively, are found in explicit form. It is concluded that the annihilation-operator coherent state representation provides the mathematical foundation for the use of differentiation operators with respect to the noncompact raising generators in symbolic expressions of the Sp(2d,R) generators. This is to be compared with the habit of replacing a boson annihilation operator by a symbolic differentiation with respect to the corresponding creation operator, accounted for by the Bargmann representation of such operators.
