Generation of dipole squeezing in a two-mode system with entangled coherent states of a quantized electromagnetic field

Rui‐Hua Xie, Qin Rao

Two-mode quantized electromagnetic fields can be entangled and admit a large number of coherent states. In this paper, we consider a two-mode system that consists of a two-level atom interacting with a two-mode quantized electromagnetic field, which is initially prepared in an entangled two-mode coherent state, via a nondegenerate two-photon process in a lossless cavity. We study the quantum fluctuations in the two-mode system and investigate in detail the effects of detuning, Stark shift and atomic coherence on atomic dipole squeezing (ADS). We show that ADS strongly depends on the atomic coherence. It is found that the stronger the correlations between the two modes are involved, the more the ADS could be generated. The detuning or Stark shift has a destructive effect on ADS, but the combined effect of the detuning and Stark shift may lead to a regular, periodical and strong ADS pattern.

Nonlinear Dynamics of a Cavity Containing a Two-Mode Coherent Field Interacting with Two-Level Atomic Systems

Eied Mahmoud Khalil, Hashim M. Alshehri, A.‐B. A. Mohamed +2 more

This study analytically explored two coupled two-level atomic systems (TLAS) as two qubits interacting with two modes of an electromagnetic field (EMF) cavity via two-photon transitions in the presence of dipole–dipole interactions between the atoms and intrinsic damping. Using special unitary su(1,1) Lie algebra, the general solution of an intrinsic noise model is obtained when an EMF is initially in a generalized coherent state. We investigated the population inversion of two TLAS and the generated quantum coherence of some partitions (including the EMF, two TLAS, and TLAS–EMF). It is possible to generate quantum coherence (mixedness and entanglement) from the initial pure state. The robustness of the quantum coherence produced and the sudden appearance and disappearance of coherence depended not only on dipole–dipole coupling but also on the intrinsic noise rate. The growth of mixedness and entanglement may be enhanced by increasing dipole–dipole coupling, leading to more robustness against intrinsic noise.

Interactions of a two-level atom with one mode of correlated two-mode field states

Christopher C. Gerry, Ronald F. Welch

We study the interaction of two-level atoms with correlated two-mode states of the quantized electromagnetic field. We assume that only one of the modes is near resonance with the atomic transition so that the second mode does not interact directly with the atom. However, we find that the presence of the second field does produce a kind of nonlocal effect in that if the atom is initially in the excited or the ground state no atomic dipole moment develops. We consider two kinds of correlated field state, namely, the correlated SU(1, 1) coherent states, which are generalizations of the two-mode squeezed vacuum states, and the so-called pair coherent states. We study the atomic inversions and the evolutions of the field statistics and of the squeezing properties of the initial field.
