Algebraic approach to the Jaynes-Cummings models

Abstract

A so far most generalized Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model, which includes not only various ordinary JC models but also a special model describing spin-orbit interaction, is investigated from an algebraic point of view. We find that an alternative representation of su(2) algebra arises naturally from the system. This structure plays an essential role in the generalized system. As one result, the system behaves like a spin-1/2 system moving in a magnetic field. So it is rather easy to obtain the energy levels, eigenstates, and the time evolution operator, or any other quantities of physical interest. Two special cases are considered. Finally, a possible generalization to the three-level system is discussed.

Approach to a generalized Jaynes-Cummings model and the geometric phase

Zhong Feng Tang

Adopting the recently introduced inverses of boson creation and annihilation operators, we construct a nonunitary transformation to solve exactly a generalized Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model. The method reveals that the JC model in a new frame can be viewed simply as a system of a spin-1/2 atom interacting with a magnetic field dependent on the photon number. For the initial state with fixed photon number l, the JC model becomes a cyclic evolution, and exhibits a geometric phase ${\ensuremath{\gamma}}_{\mathit{g}}$. We discuss the properties of ${\ensuremath{\gamma}}_{\mathit{g}}$ in the large l limit.

Algebraic structure and analytic solutions of generalized three-level Jaynes - Cummings models

Quanlin Jie, Shun-Jin Wang, Lian-Fu Wei

A generalized three-level Jaynes - Cummings model (JCM) which includes various ordinary JCMs is shown explicitly to have an SU(3) structure: the Hamiltonian can be treated as a linear function of the generators of the SU(3) group. Based on this algebraic structure, the exact algebraic solutions of the Schrödinger equation, as well as eigenvalues and eigenstates of the Hamiltonian, are obtained by an algebraic method. Thus the three-level JCM is completely solved algebraically. The SU(N) structure of the N-level JCM is also constructed explicitly and can be solved by the same method.

Dynamical Algebraic Approach to the Modified Jaynes-Cummings Model

Jing‐Bo Xu, Xu‐Bo Zou

The modified Jaynes-Cummings model of a single two-level atom placed in the common domain of two cavities or interacting with two quantized modes is studied by a dynamical algebraic method. With the help of an SU(2) algebraic structure, we then obtain the eigenvalues, eigenstates, time evolution operator and atomic inversion operator for the system. We managed to investigate the modified Jaynes-Cummings model governed by the Milburn equation and present the exact solution of the Milburn equation. PACS: 42. 50. -p, 32. 80. -t, 02. 20. -a, 03. 65. Full spectrum of nonlinear Jaynes–Cummings and anti-Jaynes–Cummings models

Francesco Antonino Raffa, Mario Rasetti

The unitary transformation method is utilized for the closed form solution of the nonlinear generalization of the Jaynes–Cummings (JC) model, which includes arbitrary multiphoton and intensity-dependent interactions between radiation and matter. Specifically, the unitary transformation leading to the diagonalization of the relevant Hamiltonian is established and energy levels and eigenstates are derived. It is also shown that the results for the JC model can be extended to the anti-Jaynes–Cummings (AJC) model through the map between the two models.

Unified and standardized procedure to solve various nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings models

Xiaoxue Yang, Ying Wu, Yuanjie Li

In this article we present a simple and unified procedure to solve various nonlinear two-level Jaynes-Cummings models. By establishing their similarity to the model describing a spin- particle in a magnetic field, we obtain the standardized forms, appropriate uniformly for all Jaynes-Cummings models, of eigenvalues, eigenstates, evolution, and atomic inversion operators. In this way, we show that the analytical solution of any single-mode and two-mode nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model can easily be obtained. We also apply this procedure to a three-mode Jaynes-Cummings model.
