Stochastic extension of the Lanczos method for nuclear shell-model calculations with variational Monte Carlo method

Noritaka Shimizu, T. Mizusaki, Kazunari Kaneko

We propose a new variational Monte Carlo (VMC) approach based on the Krylov subspace for large-scale shell-model calculations. A random walker in the VMC is formulated with the M-scheme representation, and samples a small number of configurations from a whole Hilbert space stochastically. This VMC framework is demonstrated in the shell-model calculations of 48Cr and 60Zn, and we discuss its relation to a small number of Lanczos iterations. By utilizing the wave function obtained by the conventional particle-hole-excitation truncation as an initial state, this VMC approach provides us with a sequence of systematically improved results.

Variational Monte Carlo calculations for thet’-Jmodel with Fermi holes and boson spins

N. E. Bonesteel, John W. Wilkins

We have performed variational Monte Carlo calculations for the two-dimensional t'-J model (t' is an effective, describe fermionic holes hopping in a background liquid of singlet bonds represented by products of bosonic spin operators. The variational energies we obtain from these wave functions can be directly compared with those of other proposed wave functions. We find that our energies are lowest in the t'/J\ensuremath{\ll}1 limit.

Off-Diagonal Wave Functions and Superconductivity in the Variational Monte Carlo Calculations.

We investigate the two-dimensional Hubbard model by the variational Monte Carlo method. We consider off-diagonal wave functions where we improve the Gutzwiller wave function by multiplying off-diagonal factors. In the 4×4 system, we compare our results with the exact diagonalization. The variational energies are fairly close to the exact values. We show the results for the 10×10 Hubbard model.
