Abstract

The comment by Macke and Ségard [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 28, 450–452 (2011)] of our recently published paper [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 27, 1664–1670 (2010)] is shown here to be primarily due to a misunderstanding of the raison d’être of our paper.

Reply to “Comment on ‘Gain-assisted superluminal propagation and rotary drag of photon and surface plasmon polaritons”'

Naveed Khan, Bakht Amin Bacha, Azmat Iqbal Bashir +2 more

Hereby, we amend several spectral parameters reported in our earlier work [N. Khan et al., Phys. Rev. A 96, 013848 (2017); Phys. Rev. A 96, 049906(E) (2017)], which led to unphysical predictions to be tested experimentally. In particular, the resulting probe wavelength was in the decimeter band, as pointed out in a Comment by Macke and S\'egard [B. Macke and B. S\'egard, preceding Comment, Phys. Rev. A 99, 057801 (2019)]. After incorporating the corrected parameters, the predictions of our theoretical demonstration on the gain-assisted superluminal propagation and rotary drag of photon and that of surface plasmon polaritons are improved to a good degree of accuracy and expected to be tested realistically. In particular, even the minimum values of rotary drag for both photon and surface plasmon polaritons are on the order of few microradians, thus falling within the range of experimental testability.

Saturated-absorption spectroscopy of weak-field Zeeman splittings in rubidium: comment

J. B. Kim, H.A. Kim, Han Seb Moon +1 more

High-resolution saturated absorption spectroscopy of the 85RbD1 line has been used for observation of the Zeeman effect by use of a diode laser with a narrow linewidth. Experimental results were compared with both Breit–Rabi theory related to shifted resonant frequencies and Nakayama's single-cycle optical pumping theory related to signal magnitudes of signal [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B2, 1431 (1985)]. A comparison of our results with those of Bowie [J. Opt. Soc. Am. B12, 1839 (1995)], who used perturbation theory to obtain the energy-level shifts, yielded experimental results that differ significantly in some respects.
