Correctness of Coupling Theory on the Angular Momentum by the Motion of a Spinning Particle

Dai Meng-kun

We discuss the motion of a particle which spin is 1/2 in a central force field in two different methods. We can get the wave function of a particle by matrix operating and vector coupling theory of the angular momentum. The results is the same, so that the coupling theory of the angular momentum is correct.

Angular momentum eigenstates for equivalent electrons

E. R. Tuttle, J. B. Calvert

Simple and efficient methods for adding angular momenta and for finding angular momentum eigenstates for systems of equivalent electrons are developed. Seniority quantum numbers and coefficients of fractional parentage are presented in a simple manner which does not require 6- and 9-j symbols or knowledge of group theory. Several different common representations are used in specific examples. The transformation matrices between jj- and LS-coupled states are explicitly introduced as an example of change of representation and are used to find matrix elements of the spin-orbit interaction and to examine the Zeeman effect in the two representations. The material is suitable for a graduate course in quantum mechanics.

Measurement of the orbital-angular-momentum spectrum of fields with partial angular coherence using double-angular-slit interference

Mehul Malik, Sangeeta Murugkar, Jonathan Leach +1 more

We implement an interferometric method using two angular slits to measure the orbital-angular-momentum (OAM) mode spectrum of a field with partial angular coherence. As the angular separation of the slits changes, an interference pattern for a particular OAM mode is obtained. The visibility of this interference pattern as a function of angular separation is equivalent to the angular correlation function of the field. By Fourier transforming the angular correlation function obtained from the double-angular-slit interference, we are able to calculate the OAM spectrum of the partially coherent field. This method has potential application for characterizing the OAM spectrum in high-dimensional quantum information protocols.
