ENERGY EIGENVALUE LEVEL MOTION AND A SYMBOLICC++ IMPLEMENTATION

Abstract

We consider the Hamilton operator [Formula: see text]. We assume that [Formula: see text] has a discrete spectrum. We show that the energy eigenvalues and eigenvectors obey an autonomous system of ordinary differential equations. An implementation of this system of differential equations is given using SymbolicC++.

HAMILTON OPERATORS, DISCRETE SYMMETRIES, BRUTE FORCE AND SYMBOLICC++

WILLI-HANS STEEB, YORICK HARDY

To find the discrete symmetries of a Hamilton operator Ĥ is of central importance in quantum theory. Here, we describe and implement a brute force method to determine the discrete symmetries given by permutation matrices for Hamilton operators acting in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space. Spin and Fermi systems are considered as examples. A computer algebra implementation in SymbolicC++ is provided.

Spectral analysis of a selected non self-adjoint Hamiltonian in an infinite dimensional Hilbert space

Natália Bebiano, João da Providência, João P. da Providência

The so-called equation of motion method is useful to obtain the explicit form of the eigenvectors and eigenvalues of certain non self-adjoint bosonic Hamiltonians with real eigenvalues. These operators can be diagonalized when they are expressed in terms of pseudo-bosons, which do not behave as ordinary bosons under the adjoint transformation, but obey the Weil-Heisenberg commutation relations.

Quantum Hamilton–Jacobi formalism and the bound state spectra

R. S. Bhalla, Ashok Kumar Kapoor, Prasanta Kumar Panigrahi

It is well known in classical mechanics that the frequencies of a periodic system can be obtained rather easily through the action variable, without completely solving the equation of motion. Analogously, the equivalent quantum action variable appearing in the quantum Hamilton–Jacobi formalism can provide the energy eigenvalues of a bound state problem, without the necessity of solving the corresponding Schrödinger equation explicitly. This elegant and useful method is elucidated here in the context of some known and not so well-known solvable potentials. It is also shown how this method provides an understanding as to why approximate quantization schemes such as ordinary and supersymmetric WKB can give exact answers for certain potentials.

Determining Energy Eigenvalues of Dynamic Systems by Finding 'Eigen-operator' ofSquare of Schroedinger Operator

FANHong-Yi, XUXue-Fen, Lichao

A newly transparent approach for determining energy eigenvalues is proposed, which is finding the ‘eigen-operator' of the square of the Schroedinger operator. As three examples, we discuss the energy level of a nondegenerate parametric amplifier, an angular momentum system and a ring shape of coupled oscillators.

The time evolution of quantum systems with discrete energy spectra

A. I. Lupaşcu, I. M. Popescu

Using the method of matrix functions, we describe the time evolution of quantum systems with discrete energy spectra. The time evolution of the state vectors and expressions for the perturbed eigenfunctions and their associated projectors are obtained for an atom with n discrete levels. The particular cases n = 2 and n = 3 are presented; level crossing and nonexponential decay of coupled states are emphasized.
