A new chaotic communication scheme based on adaptive synchronization

Abstract

A new chaotic communication scheme using adaptive synchronization technique of two unified chaotic systems is proposed. Different from the existing secure communication methods, the transmitted signal is modulated into the parameter of chaotic systems. The adaptive synchronization technique is used to synchronize two identical chaotic systems embedded in the transmitter and the receiver. It is assumed that the parameter of the receiver system is unknown. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, an adaptive control law is derived to make the states of two identical unified chaotic systems with unknown system parameters asymptotically synchronized; thus the parameter of the receiver system is identified. Then the recovery of the original information signal in the receiver is successfully achieved on the basis of the estimated parameter. It is noticed that the time required for recovering the information signal and the accuracy of the recovered signal very sensitively depends on the frequency of the information signal. Numerical results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

The unknown parameter of this system can be identified by transmitting a single signal, then the useful signal modulated in the parameter will be recovered successfully. By choosing different frequency signals as “0" and “1",a practical digital secure communications scheme is designed. Numerical simulation shows the effectiveness of the method.

Research on a chaotic synchronization information protection system based on dual-end BeiDou timing

Xiaodong Liang, Ruian Zhao, Zhaoyun Li +4 more

Aiming at the problems of low synchronization accuracy of chaotic signals between transceivers, poor anti-interference capability and difficulty in realizing long-distance secure transmission existing in current chaotic systems, a chaotic synchronous communication system based on BeiDou dual-terminal timing is proposed. The system acquires time information from BeiDou satellite signals to provide a unified time reference for the transmitter and receiver. The chaotic sources at both ends are processed by filtering, sampling and digital-to-analog conversion to generate chaotic digital random sequences with strong anti-interference performance. At the receiver, the demodulation of transmitted service data is realized via subtraction operation.Experimental results show that the Lyapunov exponent of the system is 0.1325, which verifies its valid chaotic characteristics. The correlation coefficient of chaotic signals between the transmitter and receiver reaches 0.93, and remains above 0.9 during 24 h continuous operation, demonstrating excellent long-term stability. The bit error can be well controlled over optical fiber transmission within 0–100 km, presenting favorable robustness for long-distance transmission. The information interception rate for unauthorized users is as low as 0.036%, and the system can resist common filtering attacks on optical links. All test indicators meet the requirements of chaotic communication, proving that the proposed system is capable of long-distance and high-security information transmission.

Breaking chaotic shift key communication via adaptive key identification

Hai‐Peng Ren, Chongzhao Han, Ding Liu

This paper proposes an adaptive parameter identification method for breaking chaotic shift key communication from the transmitted signal in public channel. The sensitive dependence property of chaos on parameter mismatch is used for chaos adaptive synchronization and parameter identification. An index function about the synchronization error is defined and conjugate gradient method is used to minimize the index function and to search the transmitter's parameter (key). By using proposed method, secure key is recovered from transmitted signal generated by low dimensional chaos and hyper chaos switching communication. Multi-parameters can also be identified from the transmitted signal with noise.

Based on a parameter identification, a parameter observer is designed for the time-delay Mackey-Glass hyperchaotic system. An unknown parameter c of this system can be identified by transmitting a single signal to the receiver, then the message signal modulated in the parameter will be recovered successfully. By choosing different frequency signals as ”0” and ”1”, a practical digital secure communication scheme is designed. Numerical simulations show the effectiveness of the method.

High-speed physical layer secure communication scheme based on synchronous chaotic and electro-optic self-feedback dual-phase encryption

Wenfu Gu, Xulin Gao

Abstract In this paper, a novel secure communication scheme based on temporal spreading and dual-phase perturbation is proposed to improve security at the physical layer. For one thing, the traditional electro-optical feedback phase encryption system is significantly sophisticated by the introduction of additional synchronized chaotic phase encryption. Besides, more keys in this system are available, with the attendance of dispersion and optical chaos, the key space is notably enhanced to ∼2 36 , resisting the eavesdropping attacks. After passing through a series of encryption devices, the information is ultimately displayed as a noise-like signal. A 32 Gb s −1 on-off keying signal is successfully transmitted over a 100 km standard single-mode fiber. Simulation results show that by selecting the appropriate system parameters, a bit error rate as low as 10 −10 can be obtained for legitimate terminals, and the effect of different hardware parameter mismatches on the decryption performance is also investigated which indicates a certain tolerance range for the mismatch of each parameter. This paper provides a new idea to combine an electro-optical feedback system with optical chaos to establish optical secrecy communication.

Chaos Synchronization Based on Hybrid Entropy Sources and Applications to Secure Communication

Weidong Shao, Yudi Fu, Mengfan Cheng +2 more

We experimentally demonstrate a chaotic synchronization scheme based on the electro-optic hybrid entropy sources. The chaos synchronization method is experimentally validated that 200 km high-level chaos synchronization can be attained and the distance can be further extended. The digital signal induced chaos synchronization signal has good robustness against the potential distortions in long-haul optical transmission. On the basis of the digital signal induced chaos synchronization strategy, a correlated random bit generation (CRBG) scheme with bit rate of 1.25 Gb/s and distance of 200 km is proposed. The generated correlated random bit sequences (CRBSs) pass all the NIST tests. Meanwhile, a data encryption scheme based on the robust chaos synchronization method is proposed with low computation complexity. The synchronization signal, in which the encrypted data is embedded, maintains the strength in long-haul transmission. The strong robustness of the scheme under parameter mismatch is numerically analyzed. These propositions show great potential in the field of secure communication, especially the long-haul scenario.
