Abstract

An accumulated photon echo readout speed as fast as 27 Tbits/s was demonstrated by a new single-shot cross-correlation method for a femtosecond four-pulse packet stored by spectral hole burning in an octaethylporphine-doped polystyrene sample.

Spectral and Time Domain Studies of Accumulated Photon Echo

Multishot or single-shot retrieval of femtosecond echo signal without substantial spectral distortion was experimentally demonstrated for a H2-octaethylporphine doped polystyrene sample. Upto 104 single-shot readout cycles using a femtosecond pulse were observed without substantial echo signal degradation. The echo decay time was determined for this sample to be (50 ± 15) ps.

Photon-echo in Er-doped fibers: a new approach to femtosecond time-domain optical signal processing

V.L. da Silva, Yaron R. Silberberg, J.P. Heritage +3 more

Recently, interest in photon echo has been revived because of its potential application in time-domain optical memories1. Several demonstrations have been reported in gases and also bulk organic and inorganic materials at cryogenic temperatures2-4. In this paper, we report the observation of accumulated photon echo in Er doped optical fibers and demonstrate that these fibers can be used to store information on the subpicosecond time scale.

Femtosecond accumulated photon echo in Er-doped fibers

Valéria Loureiro da Silva, Yaron R. Silberberg, J.P. Heritage +3 more

We report the observation of accumulated photon echo in Er-doped fibers. We also demonstrate time reversal and autoconvolution of femtosecond pulses, which suggest that Er-doped fibers are a promising medium for femtosecond time-domain optical signal processing.

We have been successful in the fluorescence detection of the accumulated photo echo by using the phase-modulation method, which makes possible photon-echo measurements in opaque samples.

Detailed Investigation of temporal behavior in accumulated photon echo

S. Saikan

A detailed parametric study of accumulated photon echo and hole-burning spectroscopy was performed on three kinds of sample including Nd:YAG, Nd:glass, and dye-doped polymers to clarify the causes of spiking behavior which appears frequently in the echo signal masking longer relaxation behavior. Accumulated photon echo was detected by the high-frequency modulated heterodyne method. Transient or persistent hole-burning spectra were obtained in Nd:glass and dye- doped polymers.
