An analytic treatment of finite-size corrections in the spin-1 antiferromagnetic XXZ chain

Abstract

It is known that the standard method for calculating finite-size corrections in Bethe ansatz solvable systems is not applicable to the Takhtajan-Babujian model and its anisotropic XXZ generalisation. The authors develop a new analytic method explicitly avoiding root densities and associated problems. Nonlinear integral equations are derived whose solutions yield the correct central charges c=1 and c=3/2 for the spin-1/2 and spin-1 XXZ chains, respectively. In the spin-1 case the authors obtain as a by-product the finite-size deviation of the Bethe ansatz roots from the 2-string formation.

Solution of the Bethe ansatz equations with complex roots for finite size: the spin S1 isotropic and anisotropic chains

Hector J. de Vega, Ferenc Woynarovich

The Bethe ansatz equations for spin-S (S>or=1) integrable vertex models (and magnetic chains) where the ground state is formed by complex roots are investigated for finite-size N. It is shown that the finite-size corrections to the imaginary parts of the roots (Bethe strings) for N>>1 are given by alpha m /(N sigma ( eta )) where eta is the real part of the roots, sigma ( eta ) is the density of the real parts, and m is the index of a root within a string. The constants alpha m are determined by a set of algebraic equations, and are given explicitly by alpha m =1/ pi ln cos(1/2 pi (S-m-1)/(S+1))/cos(1/2 pi (S-m)/(S+1)). For the best known, S=1, case alpha 0 =ln 2/(2 pi ). These results are found through a generalisation of the Euler-Maclaurin formula including nonanalytic contributions in N -1 which turn out to be essential in the solution of the present problem.

A distribution approach to finite-size corrections in Bethe Ansatz solvable models

Etienne Granet, Jesper Lykke Jacobsen, Hubert Saleur

We present a new and efficient method for deriving finite-size effects in statistical physics models solvable by Bethe Ansatz. It is based on the study of the functional that maps a function to the sum of its evaluations over the Bethe roots. A simple and powerful constraint is derived when applying this functional to infinitely derivable test functions with compact support, that generalizes then to more general test functions. The method is presented in the context of the simple spin-1/2 XXZ chain for which we derive the finite-size corrections to leading eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian for any configuration of Bethe numbers with real Bethe roots. The expected results for the central charge and conformal dimensions are recovered.

New solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations for the isotropic and anisotropic spin-1/2Heisenberg chain

Guido Jüttner, B -D Dorfel

Bethe ansatz equations (BAE) are investigated for the isotropic spin- 1 / 2 Heisenberg chain as well as the XXZ chain with real solutions characterized by identical integers in the logarithmic form of the BAE. Such states do not belong to the usual classification scheme (string hypothesis). They always exist in critical sectors with respect to the total spin of the chain and the anisotropy. The conception of holes has to be changed in this case, because there occur more holes than expected. The finite-size corrections for the XXX model are calculated including complex roots and the new type of real solutions with repeating integers. The 'tower structure' predicted by the hypothesis of conformal invariance is shown to remain unchanged.

Conformal anomaly and critical exponents of the spin-1 Takhtajan-Babujian model

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, Marcio Jose Martins

The authors consider the critical behaviour of the spin-1 Hamiltonian of the Takhtajan-Babujian model. The Bethe ansatz equations for this antiferromagnet in a finite chain are investigated analytically and numerically. The conformal anomaly and critical exponents are obtained by exploiting their relations with the eigenspectrum of the finite system. The results strongly support the conjecture that the Wess-Zumino-Witten non-linear sigma model with topological charge k=2 is the underlying field theory for this statistical mechanics model.

Conformal invariance and critical exponents of the Takhtajan-Babujian models

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, Marcio Jose Martins

The authors are concerned with the critical properties of antiferromagnetic Takhtajan-Babujian models with spin S=1, 3/2 and 2. The leading eigenenergies of this Hamiltonian, in a finite chain, are calculated by investigating numerically and analytically the Bethe ansatz equations for the finite system. The critical exponents and the conformal anomaly are obtained from their relations with the eigenspectrum of the finite Hamiltonian. The appearance of logarithmic corrections produces poor estimates. However, a combination of analytical and numerical methods produces very good estimates. Their results strongly support the conjecture that the Wess-Zumino-Witten-Novikov non-linear sigma models with topological charge k=2S are the underlying field theories for these spin-S statistical mechanics models.

Calculation of finite-size corrections for the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain

B -D Dorfel, St Meißner

The finite-size corrections for the anisotropic Heisenberg model in the gap region are calculated using an exact integral representation based on the Bethe ansatz equations (BAE). The energy corrections are determined by saddle-point approximations for states without complex roots. The case of symmetric states is discussed in greater detail.
