Abstract

We present a new and efficient method for deriving finite-size effects in statistical physics models solvable by Bethe Ansatz. It is based on the study of the functional that maps a function to the sum of its evaluations over the Bethe roots. A simple and powerful constraint is derived when applying this functional to infinitely derivable test functions with compact support, that generalizes then to more general test functions. The method is presented in the context of the simple spin-1/2 XXZ chain for which we derive the finite-size corrections to leading eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian for any configuration of Bethe numbers with real Bethe roots. The expected results for the central charge and conformal dimensions are recovered.

An analytic treatment of finite-size corrections in the spin-1 antiferromagnetic XXZ chain

Andreas Klümper, Murray T. Batchelor

It is known that the standard method for calculating finite-size corrections in Bethe ansatz solvable systems is not applicable to the Takhtajan-Babujian model and its anisotropic XXZ generalisation. The authors develop a new analytic method explicitly avoiding root densities and associated problems. Nonlinear integral equations are derived whose solutions yield the correct central charges c=1 and c=3/2 for the spin-1/2 and spin-1 XXZ chains, respectively. In the spin-1 case the authors obtain as a by-product the finite-size deviation of the Bethe ansatz roots from the 2-string formation.

Finite-size corrections for nested Bethe ansatz models and conformal invariance

Hector J. de Vega

The method presented permits us to systematically compute physical magnitudes for large but finite size in theories solvable by the nested Bethe ansatz. The value of the central charge c and the surface tension are explicitly calculable in this way. For the fundamental vertex and spin models associated to simply laced Lie algebras, c turns out to be equal to the rank of the algebra.

Finite Heisenberg Quantum Spin Chain

Hans-Peter Eckle

Abstract The Bethe ansatz genuinely considers a finite system. The extraction of finite-size results from the Bethe ansatz equations is of genuine interest, especially against the background of the results of finite-size scaling and conformal symmetry in finite geometries. The mathematical techniques introduced in chapter 19 permit a systematic treatment in this chapter of finite-size corrections as corrections to the thermodynamic limit of the system. The application of the Euler-Maclaurin formula transforming finite sums into integrals and finite-size corrections transforms the Bethe ansatz equations into Wiener–Hopf integral equations with inhomogeneities representing the finite-size corrections solvable using the Wiener–Hopf technique. The results can be compared to results for finite systems obtained from other approaches that are independent of the Bethe ansatz method. It briefly discusses higher-order corrections and offers a general assessment of the finite-size method.

New Approach to Thermal Bethe Ansatz

C. Destri, Hector J. de Vega

We present a new approach to the calculation of thermodynamic functions for crossing-invariant models solvable by Bethe Ansatz. In the case of the XXZ Heisemberg chain we derive, for arbitrary values of the anysotropy, a {\bf single} non--linear integral equation from which the free energy can be exactly calculated. The high--temperature expansion follows in a sistematic and relatively simple way. For low temperatures we obtain the correct central charge and predict the analytic structure of the full expansion around $T=0$. Furthermore, we derive a single non-linear integral equation describing the finite--size ground--state energy of the Sine--Gordon quantum field theory. PACS: 05.30, 03.70. 75.10.5

An Exactly Solvable Constrained XXZ Chain

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, R. Z. Bariev

A new family of exactly solvable models is introduced. These models are generalizations of the XXZ chain where the distance among spins up ($σ^z$-basis) cannot be smaller or equal to t (t=0,1,2,...). The case t=0 recovers the standard XXZ chain. The coordinate Bethe ansatz is applied and the phase diagram is calculated. Exploring the finite-size consequences of conformal invariance the critical exponents are evaluated exactly at the critical regions of the phase diagram

Double Scaling and Finite Size Corrections in sl(2) Spin Chain

Nikolay Gromov, Vladimir Kazakov

We find explicit expressions for two first finite size corrections to the distribution of Bethe roots, the asymptotics of energy and high conserved charges in the sl(2) quantum Heisenberg spin chain of length J in the thermodynamical limit J->\\infty for low energies E\\sim 1/J. This limit was recently studied in the context of integrability in perturbative N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. We applied the double scaling technique to Baxter equation, similarly to the one used for large random matrices near the edge of the eigenvalue distribution. The positions of Bethe roots are described near the edge by zeros of Airy function. Our method can be generalized to any order in 1/J. It should also work for other quantum integrable models.
