Abstract

An investigation was made of the propagation of subnanosecond light pulses through a system of coupled channel waveguides formed in a potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP) crystal. An increase in the input signal to 5 kW resulted in a nonlinear transfer of 40% of the optical power from one channel to another.

Preparation of Multi-channel Photon Pairs in a Periodically Poled Potassium Titanyl Phosphate Waveguide

Guo Guang-Can

A scheme to generate multi-channel photon pairs is presented, based on a periodically poled(PP) Potassium Titanyl Phosphate(KTP) waveguide via spontaneous parametric downconversion(SPDC).Type-II and type-I phase matching cases with a pulsed and a cw pump laser are discussed respectively. It is analytically shown that several photon pairs could be generated in a single type-II PPKTP waveguide, and the wavelengths of all photon pairs are in the telecom band.In type-I case, several photon pairs can be prepared, but one photon of each pair is not in telecom band. And,a multi-channel photon pairs source could be realized.

Nonlinear Directional Coupler Based on Rb:KTP-Waveguides

K S Buritskiĭ, Evgenii M Dianov, V.A. Maslov +2 more

To create ultrahigh-speed long-distance optical fiber communication systems of new generation particularly soliton transmission lines and to implement information optical processing systems into practice it is necessary to develop different functional devices having less than 10 ps high-speed characteristics[1]. The best variant is the application with this aim of light-controlled integrated optical switches and gates, as the pulses of less than 10 fs duration are obtained precisely by the optical methods. Promising from this point of view is the switch based on nonlinear coupled optical waveguides previously used experimentally in the integrated-optical variant on lithium niobate [2] and gallium arsenide [3] base as well as in quartz fiber light guides [4,5].

Polarization-Entangled Photon Pairs From Periodically-Poled Crystalline Waveguides Over a Range of Frequencies

Dylan A. Heberle, Zachary H. Levine

We propose a method to extend the frequency range of polarization entanglement in periodically poled rubidium-doped potassium titanyl phosphate (Rb:KTP) waveguides. Our calculations predict that output wavelengths from 1130 nm to 1257 nm may be achieved using Rb:KTP by the appropriate selection of a direction of propagation for the waveguide. The fidelity using a poling period of 1 mm is approximately 0.98.

A bright PPKTP waveguide source of polarization entangled photons

Michael L. Fanto, Christopher C. Tison, Gregory A. Howland +3 more

The need for bright efficient sources of entangled photons has been a subject of tremendous research over the last decade. Researchers have been working to increase the brightness and purity to help overcome the spontaneous nature of the sources. Periodic poling has been implemented to allow for the use of crystals that would not normally satisfy the phase matching conditions. Utilizing periodic poling and single mode waveguide confinement of the pump field has yielded extremely large effective nonlinearities in sources easily producing millions of photon pairs. Here we will demonstrate these large nonlinearity effects in a periodically poled potassium titanyl phosphate (PPKTP) waveguide as well as characterizing the source purity.
