Coherent Control of Ultracold Molecular Collisions: The Role of Resonances

Adrien Devolder, Timur V. Tscherbul, Paul W. Brumer

We consider the coherent control of ultracold molecule-molecule scattering, impacted by a dense set of rovibrational resonances. To characterize the resonance spectrum, a rudimentary model based on multichannel quantum defect theory has been used to study the control of the scattering cross section and the reaction rate. Complete control around resonance energies is shown to be possible, but thermal averaging over a large number of resonances significantly reduces the extent of control of reaction rates related to the random distribution of optimal control parameters between resonances. We show that measuring the extent of coherent control could be used to extract meaningful information about the relative contribution of direct scattering versus collision complex formation, as well as about the statistical regime.

All-optical filter design: Electromagnetically induced transparency and ring resonator

Ali Rostami, Karim Abbasian

In this paper, we present a novel method based on Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) and ring resonator for description of all-optical controllable filters that is so necessary for development of all-optical networks and systems. Impurities including 4-level atoms or nanocrystals added to ring resonator for control of the absorption and the index of refraction. Parameters of the control electromagnetic field or fields are used to manipulate the absorption and the index of refraction of the ring resonator. Also, optical filtering behavior of the ring resonator is studied. It is shown that using the control field, optical filtering properties of the proposed structure can be controlled.

Coherent control of non-Markovian photon-resonator dynamics

Anthony F. J. Levi, Lorenzo Campos Venuti, Tameem Albash +1 more

We study the unitary time evolution of photons interacting with a dielectric resonator using coherent control pulses. We show that non-Markovianity of transient photon dynamics in the resonator subsystem may be controlled to within a photon-resonator transit time. In general, appropriate use of coherent pulses and choice of spatial subregion may be used to create and control a wide range of non-Markovian transient dynamics in photon-resonator systems.
