q-deformation of radial problems: the simple harmonic oscillator in two dimensions

Abstract

The possibility of q-deformation of known exactly solvable quantum mechanical models is considered via the dynamical symmetry of the radial problem. The algebraic structure of the D-dimensional simple harmonic oscillator is analysed from this point of view. In the two-dimensional case, q-deformed bosons are introduced for the radial degrees of freedom, which together with the standard angular operators yield the so(2)(+)so q (2,1) dynamical algebra. The corresponding Hilbert space is identified and possible q-deformed Hamiltonians described.

q-deformed ladder and shift operators for three exactly solvable potentials obeying SO(2,1) symmetry

R K Gupta, Ian L. Cooper

The quantum deformation algebra SO q (2,1) is studied and applied to derive the q-analogues of the ladder and shift operators for the radial Coulomb, radial harmonic oscillator and Morse oscillator potentials. The q-deformed operators in all three cases are found to act like shift operators, called q-shift operators. Their possible similarity with the quasi-shift operators arising in supersymmetric quantum mechanics, or factorization, of the radial harmonic oscillator is also pointed out.

Quantum and classical mechanics of q-deformed systems

Sergei V. Shabanov

Quantum and classical mechanics of a system of q-deformed bosonic oscillators are considered. The q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebra of creation and destruction operators is realized by differential operators in a space of functions of real commutative variables. The corresponding Hilbert space is constructed. In this approach, the deformation parameter turns out to be a function of the Planck constant, an oscillator frequency and a parameter with dimension of length. The Hamiltonian path integral is derived and its semiclassical approximation is investigated to obtain the corresponding q-deformed classical theory. The phase space spanned by the usual commutative coordinates is shown to be a cylinder in classical theory. The dimensional parameter introduced determines its radius. It is argued that the q-deformation can be associated with a special non-canonical transformation. The principle of least action for the classical q-deformed system is formulated. A representation of U q (m) in a space of functions on a phase space spanned by commutative coordinates is constructed.

An application of the three-dimensionalq-deformed harmonic oscillator to the shell model

P. P. Raychev, R. P. Roussev, Nicola Lo Iudice +1 more

A procedure for the construction of a q -deformed version of the Hamiltonian of the three-dimensional harmonic oscillator (HO), based on the application of q -deformed algebras, is presented. The spectrum of this Hamiltonian is not degenerated in the quantum number of the q -deformed angular momentum. The results together with their applicability to the shell model are compared with the predictions of the modified HO.

The energy level structure of the q deformed harmonic oscillator in a finite dimensional Hilbert space is studied. The Coherent states of the q deformed harmonic oscillator in a finite dimensional Hilbert space are constructed. It is shown that the energy level structure and the dynamic action are very different from that of usual harmonic oscillator due to the finiteness of the dimension of Hilbert space and the deformation parameter′s influence, and the coherent states are different from the Glauber coherent states.

An integrated approach to ladder and shift operators for the Morse oscillator, radial Coulomb and radial oscillator potentials

Ian L. Cooper

The Morse oscillator, radial Coulomb and radial harmonic oscillator problems can be solved exactly using a variety of algebraic methods. These problems correspond to different realizations of the so(2,1) algebra and a comparison of the generators of the algebra may be used to identify mappings between each pair of systems. The resultant transition operators act as ladder, or energy changing, operators in the cases of the Coulomb and harmonic oscillator potentials, whereas they act as shift operators, acting at constant energy, in the case of the Morse potential. This is a consequence of the so(2,1) dynamical symmetry, whereby the Morse Hamiltonian is expressible solely in terms of the Casimir operator of the algebra. An alternative algebraic approach, the use of the method of supersymmetric quantum mechanics, or factorization, produces in each case a set of shift operators. Relations between the various ladder and shift operators may be identified by means of the appropriate mappings, and these results can be generalized so as to relate the one dimensional Morse oscillator to the radial Coulomb and radial harmonic oscillator potentials involving an arbitrary number of angular dimensions.
