Quantum and classical mechanics of q-deformed systems

Abstract

Quantum and classical mechanics of a system of q-deformed bosonic oscillators are considered. The q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebra of creation and destruction operators is realized by differential operators in a space of functions of real commutative variables. The corresponding Hilbert space is constructed. In this approach, the deformation parameter turns out to be a function of the Planck constant, an oscillator frequency and a parameter with dimension of length. The Hamiltonian path integral is derived and its semiclassical approximation is investigated to obtain the corresponding q-deformed classical theory. The phase space spanned by the usual commutative coordinates is shown to be a cylinder in classical theory. The dimensional parameter introduced determines its radius. It is argued that the q-deformation can be associated with a special non-canonical transformation. The principle of least action for the classical q-deformed system is formulated. A representation of U q (m) in a space of functions on a phase space spanned by commutative coordinates is constructed.

q-Deformed Harmonic Oscillator in Phase Space

A. K. Aringazin, K. M. Aringazin, Sotirios Baskoutas +3 more

Relation between Bopp-Kubo formulation and Weyl-Wigner-Moyal symbol calculus, and non-commutative geometry interpretation of the phase space representation of quantum mechanics are studied. Harmonic oscillator in phase space via creation and annihilation operators, both the usual and $q$-deformed, is investigated. We found that the Bopp-Kubo formulation is just non-commuting coordinates representation of the symbol calculus. The Wigner operator for the $q$-deformed harmonic oscillator is shown to be proportional to the 3-axis spherical angular momentum operator of the algebra $su_{q}(2)$. The relation of the Fock space for the harmonic oscillator and double Hilbert space of the Gelfand-Naimark-Segal construction is established. The quantum extension of the classical ergodiicity condition is proposed.

q-oscillators, (non-)Kähler manifolds and constrained dynamics

Sergei V. Shabanov

It is shown that q-deformed quantum mechanics (systems with q-deformed Heisenberg commutation relations) can be interpreted as an ordinary quantum mechanics on Kähler manifolds, or as a quantum theory with second (or first)-class constraints. 1. The q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebras [1], [2] exhibiting the quantum group symmetries [3],[4] have attracted much attention of physicists and mathematicians. In particular, some works have been devoted to establishing potentials for ordinary quantum systems which exhibit a q-deformed energy spectrum (see, for example, [5] and references therein) in order to obtain classical dynamical systems associated with the q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebras. In the present paper, we analyze the correspondence limit, when ¯h → 0 (rather than q → 1), of multimode q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebras [1], [2] regardless of the specific form of a Hamiltonian. We show that classical systems associated with the q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebras in this way possess a non-trivial symplectic structure which, in turn, is related to the Kähler symplectic structure [6]. From the other hand, a natural (physical) reason for a dynamical system to have a nontrivial symplectic structure is the existence of ”frozen ” , non-dynamical degrees of freedom or, in other words, constraints [7]. Dirac pointed out that a nontrivial symplectic structure might naturally occur in dynamical systems through second-class constraints [7]. We shall demonstrate below how constrained dynamics can be associated with the q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebra. As was shown in [8], a non-commutative phase space does not necessarily emerges in the formal classical limit of q-deformed quantum mechanics, provided the deformation parameter q is a function of the Planck constant. In the latter case, q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebras yield quadratic symplectic structures on a commutative phase space. For example, the one-mode q-deformed Heisenberg-Weyl algebra defined by the commutation relation ˆ b ˆ b − q

A ( p,q )-Deformation of Quantum Mechanics

Gong Ren-shan

On a one-dimensional lattice with a geometric sequence spacing, the Hermitian conjugation of a (p,q)-derivative operator is discussed by means of (p,q)-integration. Then a (p,q)-deformation of both the Heisenberg algebra for the canonical coordinates and the Heisenberg–Weyl algebra for the harmonic oscillator is presented. It is shown that although in the algebraic aspect the (p,q)-deformation discussed here is identical with q-deformation given by Truong, the (p,q)-deformed Schrodinger picture is in fact different from the q-deformed one.

Hilbert space representations for Hermitian position-deformed Heisenberg algebra and path integral formulation

Thomas Katsekpor, Latévi M. Lawson, Prince K. Osei +1 more

Position deformation of a Heisenberg algebra and Hilbert space representation of both maximal length and minimal momentum uncertainties may lead to loss of Hermiticity of some operators that generate this algebra. Consequently, the Hamiltonian operator constructed from these operators is also not Hermitian. In this paper, with an appropriate positive-definite Dyson map, we establish the Hermiticity of these operators by means of a similarity transformation. We then construct Hilbert space representations associated with these Hermitian operators that generate a Hermitian Heisenberg algebra. With the help of these representations, we establish the path integral formulation of any systems in this Hermitian algebra. Finally, using the path integral of a free particle as an example, we demonstrate that the Euclidean propagator, action, and kinetic energy of this system are constrained by the standard classical mechanics limits.

On deformations of classical mechanics due to Planck-scale physics

Olga Chashchiná, Abhijit Sen, Zurab K. Silagadze

Several quantum gravity and string theory thought experiments indicate that the Heisenberg uncertainty relations get modified at the Planck scale so that a minimal length do arises. This modification may imply a modification of the canonical commutation relations and hence quantum mechanics at the Planck scale. The corresponding modification of classical mechanics is usually considered by replacing modified quantum commutators by Poisson brackets suitably modified in such a way that they retain their main properties (antisymmetry, linearity, Leibniz rule and Jacobi identity). We indicate that there exists an alternative interesting possibility. Koopman–von Neumann’s Hilbert space formulation of classical mechanics allows, as Sudarshan remarked, to consider the classical mechanics as a hidden variable quantum system. Then, the Planck scale modification of this quantum system naturally induces the corresponding modification of dynamics in the classical substrate. Interestingly, it seems this induced modification in fact destroys the classicality: classical position and momentum operators cease to be commuting and hidden variables do appear in their evolution equations.

A Dynamical System with q-Deformed Phase Space Represented in Ordinary Variable Spaces

S. Naka, H. Toyoda, Takahiro Takanashi

Dynamical systems associated with a q-deformed two dimensional phase space are studied as effective dynamical systems described by ordinary variables. In quantum theory, the momentum operator in such a deformed phase space becomes a difference operator instead of the differential operator. Then, using the path integral representation for such a dynamical system, we derive an effective short-time action, which contains interaction terms even for a free particle with q-deformed phase space. We also analyze the eigenvalue problem for a particle with q-deformed phase space confined in a compact space.Under some boundary conditions of the compact space, there arises fairly different structures from that of the q = 1 case in the energy spectrum of the particle and in the corresponding eigenspace.
