Abstract

We find explicit unitary operators that implement linear canonical transformations of the quantum mechanical operators for a system with N degrees of freedom. We then relate the operators effecting this transformation to the previous formulation of quantum canonical transformations in terms of an effective generating function introduced by Ghandour.

Linear canonical transformations and quantum phase: a unified canonical and algebraic approach

Tugrul Hakioglu

The algebra of generalized linear quantum canonical transformations is examined in the prespective of Schwinger's unitary-canonical basis. Formulation of the quantum phase problem within the theory of quantum canonical transformations and in particular with the generalized quantum action-angle phase space formalism is established and it is shown that the conceptual foundation of the quantum phase problem lies within the algebraic properties of the quantum canonical transformations in the quantum phase space. The representations of the Wigner function in the generalized action-angle unitary operator pair for certain Hamiltonian systems with the dynamical symmetry are examined. This generalized canonical formalism is applied to the quantum harmonic oscillator to examine the properties of the unitary quantum phase operator as well as the action-angle Wigner function.

Canonical transformations and non-unitary evolution

E. D. D. Davis, G. I. Ghandour

We test the idea that transformations which, at the classical level, can be interpreted as evolutions are represented within quantum mechanics by unitary operators. To this end, we consider non-trivial canonical transformations which leave invariant the form of the Hamilton function of a system. We demonstrate that infinite families of such transformations exist for a variety of familiar conservative systems of one degree of freedom. We show how the precise form of integral equations for the stationary state wavefunctions implied by the existence of these canonical transformations can be pinned down by exploiting the algebra of the transformations and a symmetry of their generating functions. We recover several integral equations found in the literature on standard special functions of mathematical physics. We find that when one of the classical canonical transformations we consider is non-linear, its quantum implementation is non-unitary. We end with some comments on the implications of our findings for semiclassical studies and a brief discussion relevant to string theory of the generalization to scalar field theories in 1 + 1 dimensions.

Study on Linear Canonical Transformation in a Framework of a Phase Space Representation of Quantum Mechanics

Raoelina Andriambololona

We present a study on linear canonical transformation in the framework of a phase space representation of quantum mechanics that we have introduced in our previous work [1]. We begin with a brief recall about the so called phase space representation. We give the definition of linear canonical transformation with the transformation law of coordinate and momentum operators. We establish successively the transformation laws of mean values, dispersions, basis state and wave functions. Then we introduce the concept of isodispersion linear canonical transformation.

On Quantum Representation of the Linear Canonical Wavelet Transform

H. M. Srivastava, Firdous A. Shah, Aajaz A. Teali

For the efficient identification of quantum states, we propose the notion of linear canonical wavelet transform in the framework of quantum mechanics. Using the machinery of Dirac representation theory and integration within an ordered product of operators, we recast the linear canonical wavelet transform to a matrix element of the squeezing–displacing operator U(μ,s)KM between analyzing vector ⟨ψ| and two-mode quantum state vector |f⟩ to be transformed. We also derive the inner product relation and inversion formula for the linear canonical wavelet transform in the realm of quantum mechanics. Lastly, we present an explicit example for the lucid implementation of linear canonical wavelet transform in identifying the quantum states.

Non-bijective canonical transformations in quantum mechanics

J. Deenen

Proposes a new formulation for the representation of non-bijective canonical transformations in quantum mechanics. These are represented by a unitary operator acting on a Hilbert space H(X)H similar to the one used for the description of a two-dimensional system.
