Abstract

We investigate the generation of two-mode-entangled light from a laser-driven three-level $\mathbsf{V}$-type atom inside a cavity by taking into account spontaneously generated quantum interference between two atomic decay channels. We show that under some conditions, the system can reduce to a nondegenerate parametric amplifier which is responsible for the entanglement between the two cavity modes. Compared to the case without the quantum interference, it is found that the entanglement of the cavity field can be significantly enhanced by the interference when the relative phase of the two pumping lasers $\ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\phi}=\ensuremath{\pi}$.

Interference-induced enhancement of field entanglement in a microwave-driven V-type single-atom laser

Abstract We demonstrate the generation of two-mode continuous-variable (CV) entanglement in a V-type three-level atom trapped in a doubly resonant cavity using a microwave field driving a hyperfine transition between two upper excited states. By numerically simulating the dynamics of this system, our results show that the CV entanglement with large mean number of photons can be generated even in presence of the atomic relaxation and cavity losses. More interestingly, it is found that the intensity and period of entanglement can be enhanced significantly with the increasing of the atomic relaxation due to the existence of the perfect spontaneously generated interference between two atomic decay channels. Moreover, we also show that the entanglement can be controlled efficiently by tuning the intensity of spontaneously generated interference and the detuning of the cavity field.

Entanglement of a two-mode field in a collective three-level atomic system

Zhao-Hong Tang, Gao‐xiang Li

The entanglement properties of two-mode field from a laser-driven collective three-level atomic system are investigated by taking into account the spontaneously generated coherence. Under some conditions, it is found that the entanglement between the two cavity modes can be significantly enhanced by the collectivity of the atoms compared to the case of independent atoms when the relative phase $\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\varphi}=\ensuremath{\pi}$. Moreover, the spontaneously generated coherence can also greatly enhance the entanglement in comparison to the case without this coherence.

Pure-state entanglement and spontaneous emission quenching in a V-type atom–cavity system

Jiong Cheng, Yan Han, Ling Zhou

We investigate continuous variable entanglement produced by a V-type atom inside a cavity. Under a strong classical driven condition, we derive an effective Hamiltonian by going beyond the secular approximation. In the momentum representation, we provide a pure-state solution of a two-mode field for the effective Hamiltonian. In the presence of cavity losses and atomic relaxation, especially by taking into account spontaneously generated quantum interference between two atomic decay channels, we show that complete quenching of spontaneous emission is possible under appropriate conditions.

Enhancement of entanglement for two-mode fields generated from four-wave mixing with the help of the auxiliary atomic transition

Gao‐xiang Li, Hua-Tang Tan, Mihai Macovei

The entanglement properties of two mode fields generated from four-wave mixing are discussed in the system of an ensemble of $V$-type three-level atoms embedded in a two-mode cavity, in which the atomic transitions from the two excited states to the ground state are driven by one strong and one relative weak laser field, respectively. The nondegenerate four-wave mixing process occurs in the strong laser-driven transition, which is also coupled by the two cavity modes. With the help of the auxiliary atomic transition driven by the weak laser field and adjusting the frequency difference of the two modes, highly squeezed and entangled light with high intensity can be generated.

Effect of a dark state on the entanglement of the two-mode field from a laser-driven Λ-type atom

Zhao-Hong Tang, Gao‐xiang Li

The effect of a dark state on the entanglement properties of the two-mode field from a laser-driven Λ-type three-level atomic system is investigated by taking into account the spontaneously generated coherence (SGC). When the dark state is present, it is found that the entanglement between the two cavity modes can be significantly enhanced compared to the case without the dark state. When the value of SGC is maximal, the dark state population depending on the initial values of the system can affect the entanglement dramatically. Moreover, the effects of a squeezed parameter and Rabi frequency on entanglement evolution are also presented in the presence of a dark state.

Quantum treatment of cavity-assisted entanglement of three-level atoms and two fields in an electromagnetically-induced-transparency configuration

Xihua Yang, Nicholas R. Brewer, Paul D. Lett

We examine the field-field and field-atom entanglements generated by \ensuremath{\Lambda}-type three-level atoms placed in an optical cavity driven above threshold by two coherent input optical fields. It is shown that under realistic experimental conditions entanglement between the two output cavity fields as well as between the fields and the atoms can be achieved when the two cavity fields are both one- and two-photon (Raman) resonant with the atomic transitions, as in the configuration for electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT). The entanglement has similar features to pump-signal-idler three-color entanglement in an above-threshold optical parametric oscillator [Villar et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 140504 (2006)]. This cavity-enhanced atom-field cooperative coupling could enable convenient and efficient generation of bright, nondegenerate, narrow-band entangled fields, which may find potential applications in realistic quantum communications and networking protocols.
