Slow and fast light propagation in a triple quantum well nanostructure

Ghahraman Solookinejad, M. Panahi, Elnaz Ahmadi Sangachin +1 more

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the absorption and dispersion properties of a weak probe field in a triple quantum well nanostructure by using the incoherent pumping fields. A deep 7.1 nm-thick GaAs well is coupled, on one side, to two shallow 6.8 nm-thick Al 0.2 Ga 0.8 As wells by a 2.5 nm-thick Al 0.4 Ga 0.6 As barrier. The two shallow wells are separated by a 2.0 nm-thick Al 0.4 Ga 0.8 As barrier. Both sides of quantum well contact with 36 nm Al 0.4 Ga 0.6 As. Therefore, this type of triple quantum well nanostructure can be used as a suitable medium for studying the effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) and interference between incoherent pumping fields on absorption and dispersion properties of weak probe light. We find that the interferences from spontaneous emission and incoherent pumping processes can change the slope of dispersion and group velocity of the probe light from slow to fast or vice versa. Moreover, it is demonstrated that the group velocity of the light pulse can be controlled with the rates of incoherent pumping fields.

Infrared control of slow light in a slab doped by InGaN / GaN quantum dot nanostructure

Hossein Jafarzadeh, Elnaz Ahmadi Sangachin, Seyyed Hossein Asadpour

In this paper, we proposed a model for controlling the group velocity of the transmitted and reflected pulses in a slab medium doped by four-level quantum dot nanostructure. Here, an infrared signal field interacted by quantum dot nanostructure can affect the behavior of reflected and transmitted pulses. We show that in the presence and absence of infrared pulses, the other controllable parameters have essential roles for controlling the slow and fast light propagation through the medium. Moreover, we found that the simultaneous slow and fast light can be obtained for the transmitted and reflected pulses by infrared signal field. Our proposed model may be useful for ultrahigh density optical memories in quantum communication systems or in various fields of all-optical systems.

Spatial dependent of the new generated light via Fano-interference in a quantum well nanostructure

Qiang Li, Yang Zhao

Abstract In this letter, we will study the spatially dependent of the new generated light via Fano interference in a quantum well nanostructure. We will show analytically that by Fano-type interference the new light can be generated when the weak probe light propagates through the medium. We will study the efficiency of the new generated light for different strengths of the Fano-interference. We will also consider the condition when the probe light becomes optical vortex light which can carry the orbital angular momentum (OAM). By controlling the OAM of light, we will study the spatial dependence of the absorption spectrum of the generated light. Our proposed model may have potential application in the future quantum information science based on semiconductor quantum well nanostructures.
