Correlation Exponents for Multicomponent Jastrow Wave Functions and Effects of Chiral Constraint in One Dimension

Abstract

The long-distance critical behavior of correlation functions is studied for the multicomponent Jastrow wave function in one dimension (1D), which is a 1D analogue of generalized Laughlin's wave function for the fractional quantum Hall effect. The critical exponents for various correlation functions are obtained analytically. We then impose the chiral constraint and discuss the relationship to the chiral Luttinger liquid for the edge states of the quantum Hall effect.

SU(N) generalization of the Gutzwiller-Jastrow wave function and its critical properties in one dimension

Norio Kawakami

The SU(N)-generalized Gutzwiller-Jastrow wave function, which includes the effects of smooth-correlation holes, is discussed in one dimension. The long-distance critical properties are analyzed using conformal field theory, and the exact critical exponents of the correlation functions are obtained analytically. The universal scaling relations for SU(N) Luttinger liquids are derived. We also present an exactly solvable model for which the SU(N) Gutzwiller wave function gives the ground state.

Exact critical properties of the multicomponent interacting fermion model with boundaries

Satoshi Fujimoto, Norio Kawakami

Exact critical properties of the one-dimensional SU(N) interacting fermion model with open boundaries are studied by using the Bethe ansatz method. We derive the surface critical exponents of various correlation functions using boundary conformal field theory. They are classified into two types, i.e., the exponents for the chiral SU(N) Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid and those related to the orthogonality catastrophe. We discuss a possible application of the results to the photoemission (absorption) in the edge state of the fractional quantum Hall effect. \textcopyright{} 1996 The American Physical Society.

Universal properties of the wave functions of fractional quantum Hall systems

Ana Lopez, Eduardo Fradkin

We show that the wave functions of the fluid ground states of fractional quantum Hall systems, in the thermodynamic limit, are universal at long distances and that they have a generalized Laughlin form. This universality is a consequence of the analytic properties of the equal-time density correlation functions at long distances. The correlation functions calculated from the field theoretic approach to the fractional quantum Hall effect have the correct analytic properties and the wave function calculated in the Gaussian approximation becomes exact in the asymptotic limit.

Trial wave functions for quantum Hall edge states

De Filippo S, Carmine Lubritto

Trial wave functions for Laughlin's liquids in the presence of confining potentials are considered. They lead to a description of fractional quantum Hall edge states as a prototype of the chiral Luttinger liquid. Their reliability is confirmed by Monte Carlo simulation of the equivalent classical plasma. © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Chiral Luttinger liquids and a generalized Luttinger theorem in fractional quantum Hall edges via finite-entanglement scaling

Dániel Varjas, Michael P. Zaletel, Joel E. Moore

We use bosonic field theories and the infinite system density matrix renormalization group method to study infinite strips of fractional quantum Hall states starting from microscopic Hamiltonians. Finite-entanglement scaling allows us to accurately measure chiral central charge, edge-mode exponents, and momenta without finite-size errors. We analyze states in the first and second levels of the standard hierarchy and compare our results to predictions of the chiral Luttinger liquid theory. The results confirm the universality of scaling exponents in chiral edges and demonstrate that renormalization is subject to universal relations in the nonchiral case. We prove a generalized Luttinger theorem involving all singularities in the momentum-resolved density, which naturally arises when mapping Landau levels on a cylinder to a fermion chain and deepens our understanding of non-Fermi liquids in one dimension.

Ground State Properties of Strongly Correlated Fermion Systems

C. Stephen Hellberg

We present very general techniques for investigating strongly correlated lattice fermions in one dimension. We derive a variational wave function with a long ranged Jastrow factor that automatically satisfies the no double occupancy constraint present in many model Hamiltonians. The wave function is shown to be a generalized Luttinger liquid, and we use it to estimate ground state properties of the strongly correlated Hubbard model and the t-J model. We develop a numerical method to project the ground state from an arbitrary trial state. With the Luttinger liquid wave function as the initial guess, we calculate the exact ground state phase diagram of the t-J model. We discover a new phase in the model where Luttinger liquid behavior breaks down and superconducting correlations dominate the long range behavior of the system.
