Generation of highly squeezed states in a two-photon micromaser

Abstract

We consider a lossless two-photon micromaser with atomic polarization. We find that for particular values of the atomic flight time, the field evolves to a pure state which can be made of a superposition of even-photon-number states or odd-number states. These states approach to a perfectly squeezed state as the upper limit of the ``trap'' increases.

Phase squeezing in a three-level atom micromaser

Luis Roa

I consider a lossless micromaser with cascade three-level atoms in a coherent superposition of its three levels. I find that for some values of the atomic flight time and some probability amplitudes for the intermediate atomic level, the field evolves to a pure state which is the well-known general squeezed state, and the squeeze and displacement parameters are functions of the atomic input parameters. Therefore it is possible to choose atomic parameters which produce squeezing in the phase or in the amplitude of the field inside the cavity.

Generation of macroscopic superpositions in a two-photon micromaser

Pierre Meystre, Martin Wilkens

We study the dynamics of a two-photon micromaser driven by a sequence of polarized Rydberg atoms. If cavity losses are neglected, the density matrix of the cavity mode consists of four dynamically decoupled components. Under appropriate trapping conditions, similar to those for the one-photon micromaser, it evolves to a stationary state. When the bare two-photon frequency cancels the ac Stark shift we cannot satisfy the trapping conditions for odd and even photon number states simultaneously. For specific initial conditions, where either only odd or only even number states are initially populated, we may find, however, stationary states that are pure and that can lead to macroscopic superpositions. These pure states are analogous to the cotangent and tangent states of the one-photon micromaser. When the two atomic levels are in resonance with the bare two-photon transition, trapping conditions for odd and even photon number states can be fulfilled simultaneously. Although the ac Stark shift does not allow for pure stationary states, the stationary state resembles an incoherent superposition of only two pure states, to within a relative deviation of 10-3 off purity.

Generation of pure states in a two-photon micromaser: Effects of finite detuning and cavity losses

Miguel Orszag, Luis Roa, R. Ramírez

In this paper, we study the generation of pure states in a two-photon micromaser with finite detuning of the intermediate atomic level. This study was done via the temporal evolution of the discrete master equation. We show that it is possible to generate the ideal squeezed vacuum for a broad range of detunings in a lossless cavity and away from the trapping condition. We also consider the effect of cavity losses.

Generation of nonlinear coherent states in a coherently pumped micromaser under intensity-dependent Jaynes-Cummings model

M. H. Naderi, M. Soltanolkotabi, R. Roknizadeh

In this paper the possibility of generating nonlinear coherent states of the radiation field in a micromaser is explored. It is shown that these states can be provided in a lossless micromaser cavity under the weak Jaynes-Cummings interaction with intensity-dependent coupling of large number of individually injected two-level atoms in a coherent superposition of the upper and lower states. In particular, we show that the so-called nonlinear squeezed vacuum and nonlinear squeezed first excited states, as well as the even and odd nonlinear coherent states can be generated in the presence of two-photon transitions.
