Abstract

On the basis of some ideas introduced by Fern'andez in the preceding paper [Phys. Rev. A 41, 7066 (1990)], an alternative interpretation is given to the widely known nonlinear Hamiltonian of Albrecht, Hasse, and S"ussmann.

Information-theory techniques are employed in order to deal with the dynamics of nonlinear quantal Hamiltonians. Some interesting new results are obtained that tend to dispel some widely shared notions concerning the Hamiltonian approach to quantal dissipation effects.

Comment on ‘‘Information theory and nonlinear quantal Hamiltonians’’

Francisco Marcelo Fernández

A recently discussed Hamiltonian approach to dissipation effects is considered that leads to nonlinear equations for the time evolution of the expectation values of some operators. It is shown here that the Heisenberg equations of motion for the coordinate and momentum operators can be exactly solved, allowing a better study of the model.

A missing paragraph from the original work [A. Redondo, Phys. Rev. A 39, 4366 (1989] that is being commented upon [preceding paper, Cioslowski and Levy, Phys. Rev. A 40, 6727 (1989)] is included. The relationship between this work and a theorem by Lieb [E. Lieb, Phys. Rev. Lett. 46, 457 (1981); 47, 69 (1981)] is also noted.

I reply to the Comment [A. Mostafazadeh, Phys. Rev. A 55, 4640 (1997)] on my paper in Phys. Rev. A 53, 2053 (1996). In particular, there is nothing in the Comment except the final paragraph, which points out my two sick sentences in English. I give a simple example to explain my original meaning of the two sick English sentences and try to correct them.

We show that, contrary to the claims of the preceding Comment [Br\'adler and J\'auregui, Phys. Rev. A 85, 016301 (2012)], our original work [Phys. Rev. A 83, 062323 (2011)] is devoid of flaws or mistakes. We show that the criticism comes from a misunderstanding of part of our work.
