Ground State of the Three-Dimensional Quantum RKKY Spin Glass

Abstract

The ground-state properties of the spin-1/2 RKKY Heisenberg spin glass are investigated on the fcc lattice. Numerical diagonalization of finite-size systems and extrapolation to the infinite system suggest either that the correlation function decays in a power law < S 0 · S r > 2 ∼ r -1-η (η=0.02±0.09) or that there is a small but finite value of the order parameter. From comparison with other theories, we prefer the former possibility of vanishing spin glass ordering.

Ground State of Quantum Spin Systems on the Triangular Lattice

Hidetoshi Nishimori, Hiizu Nakanishi

The ground states of quantum spin systems with spin 1 / 2 are investigated on the triangular lattice by numerically diagonalizing finite size systems ( N ≦27). In the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic X Y models the correlation functions are found to decay by power laws. The antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model is likely to be paramagnetic in the ground state. Thus the classical long-range order is destroyed by quantum effects in all of the models we studied.

Ground State of Quantum Spin Glass with Infinite Range Interactions

Hidetoshi Nishimori, Y‐h. Taguchi, Takehiko Oguchi

We have investigated the spin-1/2 random Heisenberg model with infinite range interactions by a numerical method. Extrapolation of finite size ( N ≦16) properties to the infinite system has yielded the following results. The average ground state energy is lower than that of the SK model (Ising spin) by about 25%. In the ground state, a critical point between the spin glass and ferromagnetic (mixed) phases exists just around the critical point (\(\tilde{J}_{0}/\tilde{J}{=}1\)) of the corresponding classical random Heisenberg model. Quantum fluctuations are concluded not to change the ground state properties qualitatively.

GROUND STATES IN THREE-DIMENSIONAL ±J EDWARDS–ANDERSON SPIN GLASSES WITH FREE BOUNDARIES

Frauke Liers, Michael Jünger

By an exact calculation of the ground states for the ±J Edwards–Anderson spin glass, one can extrapolate the ground state energy to infinite system sizes. We calculate the exact ground states for the three-dimensional spin glass with free boundaries for system sizes up to 10 and fit different finite-size functions. We cannot decide, only from the quality of the fit, which fitting function to choose. Relying on the literature values for the extrapolated energy, we find the finite-size corrections to vary as 1/L.

Spin glasses in the limit of an infinite number of spin components

L. W. Lee, A. Dhar, A. P. Young

We consider spin glass models in which the number of spin components m is infinite. In the formulation of the problem appropriate for numerical calculations proposed by several authors, we show that the order parameter defined by the long-distance limit of the correlation functions is actually zero and there is only "quasi-long-range order" below the transition temperature. Nonetheless, there can be a finite temperature phase transition where the decay of correlations changes from exponential to power law. We also show that the spin glass transition temperature is zero in three dimensions so power-law behavior only occurs at T=0 in this case. We also argue that the order of limits, m-->infinity and N-->infinity is important, where N is the number of spins.

Monte Carlo Studies of the Ordering of the One-Dimensional Heisenberg Spin Glass with Long-Range Power-Law Interactions

Dao Xuan Viet, Hikaru Kawamura

The nature of the ordering of the one-dimensional Heisenberg spin-glass model with a long-range power-law interaction is studied by extensive Monte Carlo simulations, with particular attention to the issue of the spin-chirality decoupling/coupling. Large system sizes up to $L=4096$ are studied. With varying the exponent $σ$ describing the power-law interaction, we observe three distinct types of ordering regimes. For smaller $σ$, the spin and the chirality order at a common finite temperature with a common correlation-length exponent, exhibiting the standard spin-chirality coupling behavior. For intermediate $σ$, the chirality orders at a temperature higher than the spin, exhibiting the spin-chirality decoupling behavior. For larger $σ$, both the spin and the chirality order at zero temperature. We construct a phase diagram in the $σ$ versus the temperature plane, and discuss implications of the results. Critical properties associated with both the chiral-glass and the spin-glass transitions are also determined.
