Abstract

We have defined a new nonclassical effect: amplitude kth-power squeezing. We have analyzed the squeezing properties of the k-photon coherent states as defined by D'Ariano, Rasetti, and Vadacchio [Phys. Rev. D 32, 1034 (1985)]; Katriel et al. [Phys. Rev. D 34, 332 (1986)]; and D'Ariano and Sterpi [Phys. Rev. A 39, 1810 (1989)]. It has been shown that, due to the interaction with the nonlinear nonabsorbing medium modeled as an anharmonic oscillator, these states become amplitude kth power squeezed.

Higher-order squeezing for the quantized light field:Kth-power amplitude squeezing

Si-de Du, Chang-De Gong

Kth-power amplitude squeezing (KPAS) is introduced and examined in the nonlinear-harmonic-oscillator model and the Jaynes-Cummings model with an intensity coupling. We discover that, in these two cases, the long-time behavior of KPAS (k\ensuremath{\le}4) for the strong initial field periodically displays a collapse-revival-valley and squeezed collapse-revival phenomenon, respectively. For a nonclassical state, the relation between KPAS and ordinary squeezing, Hong-Mandel squeezing, and antibunching is investigated. The results show that KPAS is another intrinsic and independent nonclassical effect inequivalent to the last three.

AmplitudeNth-power squeezing inkth-harmonic generation

You-Bang Zhan

We show that the amplitude Nth-power squeezing can be produced in kth-harmonic generation. The amplitude Nth-power squeezing of the fundamental can exist if the kth harmonic is originally in a coherent state which includes the vacuum. It is also shown that the normal squeezing of the kth harmonic depends on the amplitude kth-power squeezing of the fundamental.

Squeezing of the squared field amplitude by an anharmonic oscillator

Christopher C. Gerry, Edward R. Vrscay

Hillery [Opt. Commun. 62, 135 (1987)] has recently shown that the squeezing of the square of the field amplitude is a nonclassical effect. In this paper we show that the interaction of coherent light with a nonlinear medium modeled as a nonabsorbing anharmonic oscillator gives rise to this type of squeezing. We also show that this squeezing can be interpreted in terms of the Lie algebra of SU(1,1).

The Mth nonlinear coherent states

S Majid Heydari, Akbar Jafari, O. Abbasi

Abstract Since radiation field states are very important in the interaction with the various atomic structures, in this article we introduce a new type of quantum states, which we call ‘Mth nonlinear coherent states’. We define these states based on acting of the number operator M times n ˆ M on a nonlinear coherent state. By analyzing the photon distribution function and its overlap with the nonlinear coherent states, it becomes clear that these states are very similar to the corresponding nonlinear coherent states. We also investigate the nonclassical features of such states for different values of M, and it is determined that the occurrence of sub-Poissonian photon statistics, normal squeezing, and amplitude squared squeezing are considerable nonclassical properties of the Mth nonlinear coherent states. Also, examining the Husimi function shows a local behavior for the introduced states. Furthermore, by calculating the Wigner function, we find out that in some points of the phase space, the value of this function is negative which could be considered as a nonclassical feature for these states.

THE kTH POWER SQUEEZING OF THE FIELD AMPLITUDE IN SQUEEZED NUMBER STATES

WU XING一LONG, 南京大学物理系

We have studied the amplitude kth power squeezing in squeezed number states and derived the general formulas related to the squeezing effect. The squeezing propereies have been obtained for the cases of k=1,2,3 and 4 by means of numerical calculation, The results show that the AKPS has favourable applications in optical communication.
