Bunching and antibunching in four wave mixing NV center in diamond

The determination of classical and quantum states through photon bunching and anti-bunching like phenomena may have potential applications in quantum information processing and long-distance quantum communications. We report the photon bunching and multi anti-bunching like phenomena by generating multi-order fluorescence and four-wave mixing (FWM) at room temperature using the Nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond. We have implied FWM process to demonstrate the interference pattern emerging from NV of nano-crystals in classical, nonclassical and intermediate (classical and nonclassical) regimes. Intersystem crossing is controlled by the fluence of incident beams. The interference pattern from dominant ionization of NV- to NVo and NVo to NV- suggests the bunching and anti-bunching like phenomena of photons, respectively.

Suppression of the four-wave-mixing background noise in a quantum memory retrieval process by channel blocking

Kai Zhang, Jinxian Guo, L. Q. Chen +3 more

In a quantum memory scheme with the Raman process, the read process encounters noise from four-wave mixing (FWM), which can destroy the nonclassical properties of the generated quantum fields. Here we demonstrate experimentally that the noise from FWM can be greatly suppressed by simply reducing the FWM transition channels with a circularly polarized read beam while at the same time retaining relatively high retrieval efficiency.

Ultrafast quantum optics

Ian A. Walmsley

Ultrashort light pulses play an important role in the generation, manipulation and characterization of nonclassical light. Nonclassical light is often generated from a classical pump beam using a nonlinear optical process. One might expect that the high peak intensity of ultrashort pulses would provide the necessary driver for such processes, and this is indeed the case. Ultrashort pulses have been used to generate squeezed states, and quadrature entangled states via three and four wave mixing, photon number states, polarization and frequency or directional entangled photon pairs states via three wave mixing.
