Abstract

In this paper, by regulating the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms, we can successfully control the behavior of single-photon transport in one-dimensional waveguide cavity. Our findings indicate that the dipole-dipole interaction is equivalent to the positive detuning. Furthermore, we also found that there is a competition between dipole-dipole interaction and the atom-cavity coupling. In addition, we also studied the influences of dipole-dipole interaction on transport spectrum under extreme conditions of high and low energy.

CONTROLLING SINGLE-PHOTON TRANSPORT IN A ONE-DIMENSIONAL RESONATOR WAVEGUIDE BY INTERATOMIC DIPOLE–DIPOLE INTERACTION

Wei Tian, Bin Chen, GUANG TONG

Controlling single-photon transport in a one-dimensional resonator waveguide can be realized by the interatomic dipole–dipole interaction (DDI). Our numerical results show that the effects of the DDI act as that of a positive detuning. Because of the DDI, the period of the transmission spectrum changes, and its amplitude increases for stronger DDI intensity. We also discuss the influences of the DDI on the transport in low-energy and high-energy regimes. Besides, a cooperation dissipation, induced by the two atoms coupling to a common reservoir, can lead to the increase of the atomic total decay rates and the decrease of the reflection amplitude of the incident photon.

Controllable single-photon transport in a one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguide coupled to two nanocavities interacting with atoms

We investigate controllable single-photon transport in a one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguide coupled to two nanocavities interacting with atoms. The reflection and transmission coefficients for a single photon propagating in such a system are deduced by using the discrete coordinates approach. The resonator–nanocavity coupling strength, atom–nanocavity coupling coefficient, and the detuning between the incident photon and the atom, respectively, which affect the transport properties of the single photon, are analyzed. It is found that some useful information, such as the atom–nanocavity coupling strength, can be extracted from the single-photon transmission spectrum under proper parameter settings. We also study how the coupling between two nanocavities affects the single-photon transmission property.

Transmission Characteristics of Waveguide-Coupled Nanocavity Embedded in Two Atoms with Dipole-Dipole Interaction

Mu-Tian Cheng, Xiao-San Ma, Xia Wang

Photon scattering properties in one-dimensional waveguide side coupled to a nanocavity embedded in two atoms with dipole-dipole interaction (DDI) are investigated theoretically. The analytical expressions of the transmission and reflection amplitudes are deduced by using the real-space Hamiltonian. A method to determine the coupling strength of DDI is proposed. Realization of single photon switching by modulation the DDI is investigated. The influence of dissipations on the performance of the single photon switching are exhibited. An asymmetric Fano-type resonance, which can be controlled by the DDI, appears in the transmission spectrum.

Controllable single-photon transport in an optical waveguide coupled to an optomechanical cavity with a V-type three-level atom

Yuqing Zhang Yuqing Zhang, Zhong-Hua Zhu, Zhaohui Peng +3 more

An optomechanical cavity embedded with a V-type three-level atom is exploited to control single-photon transport in a one-dimensional waveguide. The effects of the atom-cavity detuning, the optomechanical effect, the coupling strengths between the cavity and the atom or the waveguide, and the atomic dissipation on the single-photon transport properties are analyzed systematically. Interestingly, the single-photon transmission spectra show multiple double electromagnetically induced transparency. Moreover, the double electromagnetically induced transparency can be switched to a single one by tuning the atom-cavity detuning. © 2018 Chinese Optics Letters.

Single-Photon Transport Properties in Coupled-Resonator Waveguide with Nonlocal Coupling to a Whispering-Gallery Resonator Interacting with Two Separated Atoms

Tao Zhou, Xiaofei Zang, Jing Chen

We investigate the single-photon transport properties in a one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguide non-locally coupled to a whispering-gallery resonator embedded with two separated two-level atoms based on the real-space approach. The control of single-photon transport is realized by modulating the detuning between two separated atoms, phase differences, and the symmetric/asymmetric nonlocal couplings. The multi-frequency photon-filter is obtained, and the influences of dissipation effects on single-photon transmission spectra and the phase shift are also discussed.

Coherent field-controlled single-photon transmission in the atom-cavity-waveguide coupled system

Xiangyang Yu, Jianhong Li, Xiao-bin Li

Starting from the semiclassical theory of light–matter interaction, we have theoretically investigated the substantial influences of two coherent driving fields on manipulating the single-photon transmission probability in the extensively studied atom-cavity-waveguide coupled system. The results strictly demonstrate that under the relatively large photon-cavity detuning and moderately strong driving fields, the single-photon transmission probability increases remarkably from the original 0 to 1 by controlling the coherent fields in the nondissipative environment, which manifests the manipulation of the coherent fields as a sort of highly controllable external tool to efficiently act as an experimentally available all-optical quantum switching. In contrast, the behavior independent from variation of coherent fields and characterized by the stationary transmission spectrum appears under the photon-atom on-resonance condition. Similar properties can also be observed in the dissipative environment. These distinct characteristics essentially reveal some significant functionalities of coherent field control in influencing the single-photon transmission spectrum, which may have potential applications in designing efficient photonic devices.
