Abstract

An optomechanical cavity embedded with a V-type three-level atom is exploited to control single-photon transport in a one-dimensional waveguide. The effects of the atom-cavity detuning, the optomechanical effect, the coupling strengths between the cavity and the atom or the waveguide, and the atomic dissipation on the single-photon transport properties are analyzed systematically. Interestingly, the single-photon transmission spectra show multiple double electromagnetically induced transparency. Moreover, the double electromagnetically induced transparency can be switched to a single one by tuning the atom-cavity detuning. © 2018 Chinese Optics Letters.

Controlling single-photon transport in an optical waveguide coupled to an optomechanical cavity with a Λ-type three-level atom

Abstract We theoretically study the single-photon transport along a one-dimensional optical waveguide coupled to an optomechanical cavity containing a Λ-type three-level atom. Our numerical results show that the transmission spectra of the incident photon can be well controlled by such a hybrid atom-optomechanical system. The effects of the optomechanical coupling strength, the classical laser beam applied to the atom, atom-cavity detuning, and atomic dissipation on the single-photon transport properties are analyzed. It is of particular interest that an analogous double electromagnetically induced transparency emerges in the single-photon transmission spectra.

Single-photon Transport in a Waveguide-cavity-emitter System

Abstract We investigate the single-photon transport properties in a hybrid waveguide quantum electrodynamics system, in which a one-dimensional waveguide is simultaneously coupled to a cavity and a driven Λ-type three-level atom. The cavity and the atom are also coupled to each other. We show that when the waveguide is coupled to the cavity and the atom at the same point, double electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) can be observed from the system. The physical mechanism of the double EIT effect has been given by setting up the eigenstate structure for the whole system. When the waveguide is coupled to the cavity and the atom at different points, we demonstrate that the single-photon transmission spectra can be effectively controlled by adjusting the relative separation between the cavity and the atom. Moreover, this non-zero relative separation can lead to the occurrence of the controllable nonreciprocal scattering effect. These results have potential applications in realization of photonic coherent control.

Single-photon transport properties in a waveguide–cavity system

Xiaofei Zang, Chun Jiang

We study single-photon transmission spectra in a waveguide coupled to two cavities embedded with one(two) two-level atom(atoms). When only the left cavity contains a two-level atom, single-photon transmission spectra can be modulated by changing the distance between the two cavities. Phase separation-induced transparency is acquired in such a system when each cavity contains a two-level atom. The influence of the dissipation of cavities and atoms on single-photon transport properties is also analysed. In addition, the experimental design of such an optical system is discussed.

Controlling Single-Photon Transport along an Optical Waveguide by using a Three-Level Atom

Wei Tian, Bin Chen, XU Wei-dong

We theoretically investigate the single-photon transport properties in an optical waveguide embedded with a V-type three-level atom (VTLA) based on symmetric and asymmetric couplings between the photon and the VTLA. Our numerical results show that the transmission spectrum of the incident photon can be well controlled by virtue of both symmetric and asymmetric coupling interactions. A multifrequency photon attenuator is realized by controlling the asymmetric coupling interactions. Furthermore, the influences of dissipation of the VTLA for the realistic physical system on single-photon transport properties are also analyzed.

Single-photon transport through a waveguide coupling to a quadratic optomechanical system

Lei Qiao

We study the coherent transport of a single photon, which propagates in a one-dimensional waveguide and is scattered by a quadratic optomechanical system. Our approach, which is based on the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, gives an analytical solution to describe the single-photon transmission and reflection properties. We analyze the transport spectra and find they are not only related to the optomechanical system's energy-level structure, but also dependent on the optomechanical system's inherent parameters. For the existence of atomic degrees of freedom, we get a Rabi-splitting-like or an electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like spectrum, depending on the atom-cavity coupling strength. Here, we focus on the single-photon strong-coupling regime so that single-quantum effects could be seen.

Single-photon transport in a one-dimensional waveguide coupling to a hybrid atom-optomechanical system

W. Z. Jia, Z. D. Wang

We explore theoretically the single-photon transport in a single-mode waveguide that is coupled to a hybrid atom-optomechanical system in a strong optomechanical coupling regime. Using a full quantum real-space approach, transmission and reflection coefficients of the propagating single-photon in the waveguide are obtained. The influences of atom-cavity detuning and the dissipation of atom on the transport are also studied. Intriguingly, the obtained spectral features can reveal the strong light-matter interaction in this hybrid system.
